Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of Business and Management invites applications for a tenure-track or professional position in business and management at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, effective January 2026. Areas of specialization are open; however, preference will be given to candidates with the background to teach a variety of general topics across the disciplines of business and management, ranging from Introduction to Business to upper-division courses in Business Law, Negotiation and Conflict Management, Human Resources and Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Social Entrepreneurship. A well-qualified business and management faculty member will be a critical thinker who combines insight, creativity, and technology with a practical approach to business and management education. This position may also include the opportunity to serve as chair of the Department of Business and Management, based on the candidate’s qualifications and institutional needs.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in a wide range of business and management courses.
  • Faculty teach on a 4/4 schedule (24 units/academic year) as well as on-campus and online as needs are identified.
  • Transfer knowledge including theory, practical skills, methods and techniques in his/her related field.
  • Challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and thinking.
  • Participate in general faculty roles in areas including advising and committee service.
  • Participate in the building of an innovative Christian university.
  • Take part in department and university decision-making and shared governance.
  • Exercise academic leadership in the design and development of curricula.
  • Collaborate with department faculty in curriculum implementation, student support, and continuous program improvement.
  • Assist with development of new initiatives and delivery systems.
  • Assist with facilitation of continuing accreditation through participation in professional development opportunities and in the preparation of program review documents and assessment processes.
  • Assist in building relationships with Orange County businesses and employers; assist with continuous strengthening of program links to and service to the community.
  • Participate in mentoring students by advising, responding to questions appropriate for student/faculty interactions, and meeting with students as needed or requested.
  • The department chair position includes the following functions, which can be specified upon request:
    • Recruiting and supervising departmental personnel.
    • Continuously assessing educational effectiveness of departmental programs.
    • Strategic planning and budget management for the department.
    • Attending to student needs.
    • Promoting the department throughout the University and to external publics.
    • Managing needs for effective operation of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates with a PhD/DBA/JD are preferred. Qualified individuals with an MBA plus a combination of extensive teaching and business experience will be considered. Relevant industry certifications would be an added advantage.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness in a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in business and management, ranging from Introduction to Business to upper-division courses in Business Law, Negotiation and Conflict Management, Human Resources and Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Social Entrepreneurship.
  • Candidates must have evidence of a strong commitment to teaching in a liberal arts environment. Interacting with students, working collaboratively with faculty from other disciplines, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values, and culture must be a top priority of the candidate.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability at the undergraduate level. Experience with hyflex and/or online delivery methods preferred.
  • Proficiency or strong familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of applications and the Canvas learning management system or equivalent LMS.
  • A vibrant Christian faith and commitment to an integration of faith and learning.
  • For the department chair, candidates should provide evidence of administrative experience in higher education.

SALARY

This is a full-time position. Placement at the appropriate faculty rank and salary are based on qualifications, education, experience, and Vanguard University's faculty compensation schedule.

Assistant Professor: $60,595 to $81,501

Associate Professor: $70,676 to $95,190

Highly qualified candidates may be considered for appointment as Department Chair, with additional compensation. Vanguard University also offers a very generous benefits package .

Vanguard offers both tenure-track and term faculty contracts. The type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications at the time of hire.
