Job Description Summary

The Department of World Languages (WOLA) faculty supports student learning across on-campus and distance learning modalities. This position is a Korean teaching role with opportunities to teach additional languages offered within the department if SACSCOC credentialing criteria are met. Faculty prepare and deliver engaging, innovative coursework aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards. A successful candidate will bring strong communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to student success in an environment that promotes belonging for all. This position begins in August 2027.

Job Description

The World Languages Department offers credit courses across 10 languages of instruction leading to an Associate of Arts degree in both on-campus and online formats. Recognized for excellence, our department has earned an "Exemplary" assessment rating for 10 consecutive years and is home to several award-winning faculty members. Our faculty actively engage in innovative practices in language pedagogy, second-language acquisition, and multilinguistic, with opportunities to participate in service learning and global learning experiences, including study abroad. Above all, advancing a deep appreciation and understanding of global cultures remains a foundational commitment of our department.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of Korean language to amulticultural student population based on the department's approvedcourse learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructionalstrategies appropriate to the needs of community college studentsand the standards of the discipline.
  • Participate actively in departmental responsibilities anddepartmental governance, including curriculum review and revision,program review, assessment of student learning outcomes at thecourse and program level, and other departmental activities.
  • Administer and evaluate departmental Course Challenge Exams in Korean and maintain and revise Course Challenge Exam materials toensure alignment with departmental curriculum and learningoutcomes.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedbackreflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the Korean program.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a mannerwhich does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex,sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability,age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or otherprotected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professionaldevelopment activities.
  • Support division and department goals through active andcollegial engagement in decision-making and unit-levelplanning.
  • Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils,work groups, and task forces.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the departmentchair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor,executive vice chancellor.
Technology
  • Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, onlineresources, and other technologies for the classroom.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning managementsystem such as Blackboard to develop and build course content andperform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi,etc.)
Principal Professional Standards
  • Appropriate use of the college's learning managementsystem.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission offinal course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, and other officialcollege functions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improvestudent retention and success.
  • Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, department, orother activities and meetings.
  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality inall interactions.
  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meetprofessional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required Education
  • Master's degree in Korean,

Preferred Education

In addition to meeting the required education qualifications in Korean, a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in one of the following languages is preferred: Arabic, Chinese, French, German,Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, or Spanish.
