Job summary

The Chronicle Of Higher Education, Inc. seeks an Automotive Technology instructor to teach at the community college level.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology or related field, or equivalent industry training.
  • Minimum 5 years industry experience with ASE Master certification and G1.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize departmental syllabus template, approved textbooks, and supplemental course materials.
  • Submit personalized course syllabus to Deans’ Office in electronic format one week prior to course start date.
  • Distribute a course syllabus to all students covering class requirements, grading procedure, attendance requirements, and course objectives; review with students the first week.
  • Receive, understand, and follow Course Data Form as distributed by Deans’ Office.
  • Adhere to printed course schedule meeting times and locations; obtain prior approval for substitutes or guest speakers.
  • Maintain grade book in electronic or hard copy format; take and record student attendance daily.
  • Submit accurate and certified attendance verifications and mid-semester class rosters as required.
  • Give final exams per the College’s final exam schedule and respond to emails from students and staff in a timely manner.

Description Summary

The instructor will teach Automotive Technology courses to adiverse student population, will participate on faculty committeesand perform other duties related to teaching in a community collegeenvironment. Courses may be offered during the day and evening. Theresponsibilities and duties of the instructor may change as theneeds of the College arise.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilize departmental syllabus template, approved textbooks, and supplemental course materials.
  • Submit personalized course syllabus to Deans’ Office in electronic format one (1) week prior to course start date.
  • Distribute a course syllabus to all students that covers classrequirements, grading procedure, attendance requirements,
  • and course objectives. Review with students no later than thefirst week of the course.
  • Receive, understand, and follow Course Data Form as distributedby Deans’ Office.
  • Adhere to printed course schedule meeting times andlocations.
  • Obtain prior approval for any substitute teachers or guestspeakers from Deans’ Office.
  • Maintain grade book in electronic or hard copy format.
  • Take and record student attendance each day.
  • Submit accurate and certified Tenth (10th) Day AttendanceVerification and Mid-Semester Class Roster or other report toDeans’ Office
  • Give final exam at the time and date indicated on the College’sfinal exam schedule.
  • Respond to e-mails from students, staff, and collegeadministrators in a timely manner while classes are in sessionusing assigned college designated e-mail.
  • Check assigned college mailbox regularly.
  • Attend campus-wide and department professional development and/ or trainings.
  • Work with students to prepare for and obtain employment.
  • Maintain 20 hours of technical update training annually.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Automotive Technology, related field, orequivalent industry training
  • Minimum 5 years industry experience with an ASE Mastercertification and G1
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral and writtencommunication skills, and basic computer literacy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors’ degree in a related discipline
  • 5 or more years of previous community college and/or universityteaching experience
  • ASE Advanced Level Engine Performance (L1) certification
  • ASE Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle (L3) certification
  • Experience with hybrid/electric vehicle service and repair
  • Experience with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)service and repair
  • Ford Motor Company certifications
