Job summary

Arizona State University’s School of Music, Dance and Theatre invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in dance movement practices, education, and scholarship at the Tempe campus.

These are one semester, part-time, non-benefits eligible appointments with typical loads of one to two classes per semester, including preparing materials, evaluating work, and holding weekly office hours or online discussions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4 years of industry experience; OR a Master’s degree, by appointment time, and 2 years of industry experience.
• MM/MFA or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment.
• Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level.
• Knowledge of local and regional disciplinary ecosystem.
• Demonstrated experience developing curricula and scholarly activity.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver course content, including lectures, readings, discussions, exercises, critiques and other teaching activities in accordance with the approved syllabus and academic standards.
• Evaluate student work and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and assessments.
• Assist students through office hours, seminars, or online forums.
• Support course administration as needed (e.g., syllabus preparation, coordination with teaching assistants, keeping accurate course records).
• Teach in one or more modalities: in person or online.

Faculty Associate in Dance - School of Music, Dance and Theatre

Location: Tempe Campus

Description:

The School of Music, Dance and Theatre music program on the Tempe campus at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses online and/or on-campus in dance movement practices, dance education, and/or dance scholarship.

The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired as Faculty Associates may not hold multiple, non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

These positions are one semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one to two classes per semester. Teaching duties include preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes).

Working Environment

The successful candidate(s) will teach in-person or online courses:

• Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled classroom setting subject to extended periods of standing, lecturing, facilitating classroom activities
• Frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
• Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
• Occasional activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
• Clearly communicate to perform essential functions
• Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals
