Job summary

Arizona State University’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) invites applications for a Faculty Associate pool to teach courses online and in-person on the Tempe campus. Appointments are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, up to 0.40 FTE, with start dates varying by course needs.

Successful candidates will deliver high-quality instruction, develop syllabi, assess student work, and maintain an inclusive learning environment across Global Health, Environmental Social Science,

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in global health, environmental social science, evolutionary anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, sociocultural anthropology, or related field at time of appointment.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness or teaching support in courses aligned with SHESC mission.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more areas within the School.
• Develop and deliver engaging course content through lectures, discussions, readings, and other instructional activities.
• Prepare course materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments, in accordance with course objectives.
• Evaluate and grade student work using rubrics and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment promoting student engagement and success.
• Maintain an active instructor presence with office hours and prompt responses to inquiries.
• Utilize Canvas to manage course content, communications, and grading.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff and adhere to university policies for instruction.

The School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) (https://shesc.asu.edu), in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences on the Tempe campus at Arizona State University invites applications for the position of Faculty Associate. The School seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants to teach a variety of courses (online and immersion) on topics related in one or more of the following areas in the school, including:

• Global Health,
• Environmental Social Science,
• Evolutionary Anthropology,
• Archaeology,
• Bioarchaeology, and
• Sociocultural Anthropology

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed‐term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed 0.40 FTE (1-2 courses per semester). Specific start date within the academic year will vary based on assigned courses.

For this position, we seek to attract a pool of qualified people who are available to teach in-person courses on ASU’s campuses in Tempe, as well as a pool of faculty who are also able to teach online.

Required Qualifications

• A doctoral degree in global health, environmental social science, evolutionary anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, sociocultural anthropology, or a related social sciences or health sciences field at the time of appointment.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness or teaching support in specialized courses relating to the mission and curriculum of the School.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in global health, environmental social science, evolutionary anthropology, archaeology, bioarchaeology, sociocultural anthropology, or a related social sciences or health sciences field focused teaching.
• Experience working in collaborative environments.
• Experience teaching in Canvas.
• Experience with online course development and administration.
• Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU’s Charter.
