Job summary

Arizona State University’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change (SHESC) at the Tempe campus invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor to expand its program in human origins. This in-person, tenure-track/tenured position is housed in SHESC with affiliated appointment in IHO.

Start date anticipated as August 16, 2027. The successful candidate will lead research in paleoanthropology (field and/or lab), contribute to teaching and graduate training, and collaborate across SHESC

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology, Biology, or a related field with a focus on human origins research.
  • Strong track record of research grounded in evolutionary theory.
  • Demonstrated laboratory and/or field experience in human origins research.
  • Evidence of publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Successful history of obtaining extramural funding.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and maintain a high‑impact research program in paleoanthropology.
  • Develop innovative research addressing questions in hominin evolution, paleobiology, functional morphology, developmental biology, and related areas.
  • Conduct laboratory and/or field‑based research and advance methodologies in human origins study.
  • Publish scholarly research and disseminate findings through peer‑reviewed publications and conferences.
  • Seek external funding to support research and training.
  • Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in anthropology and related disciplines.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and research staff.
  • Collaborate with SHESC and IHO to advance scholarly leadership and public outreach related to human origins.
