Job summary

Johnson & Wales University seeks adjunct faculty to teach marketing courses at the Charlotte Campus. You will prepare, deliver, and assess course content, maintain LMS materials, and provide timely feedback to students.

Qualified candidates hold a Master’s in marketing or equivalent, with experience in higher education. Candidates should be able to commute to the Charlotte campus and participate in faculty activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in marketing or 18 graduate credits plus a master’s from a regionally accredited institution, or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching at undergraduate/graduate levels preferred.
  • Ability to contribute to diversity and excellence in learning experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned course(s) with prepared materials and lesson plans.
  • Maintain course site in LMS with materials, assessments, and grade updates.
  • Keep accurate attendance and achievement records.
  • Provide syllabus with objectives, texts, attendance policy, and evaluation criteria.
  • Early communication with students, department chair, and academic counselor for at-risk students.
  • Refer students to university resources for support services.
  • Update faculty information system with teaching credentials.
  • Attend orientation and meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

Prepares and delivers relevant course content using a variety of teaching methods and assessments that support student learning. Ensures that students achieve and demonstrate mastery of stated learning objectives.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teaches assigned course(s) by delivering appropriate course content to students, preparing course materials and lesson plans, grading student work, providing students with robust feedback in a timely manner, and addressing students’ questions and concerns
  • Prepares and maintains course site in the learning management system for dissemination of course materials, assessments, and weekly updating of the grade center in accordance with university requirements
  • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, academic achievement and performance in accordance with university policies and procedures
  • Distributes to each student, in each course, via the learning management system, a university-approved syllabus that includes course objectives, texts, attendance policy and materials required for course and evaluation criteria
  • Communicates early with the student, department chair, and academic counselor for any student in danger of failure or in need of individual counseling, using appropriate university systems
  • Refers students to appropriate university sources for information, guidance, financial assistance, career services, library services, academic support, accessibility services, counseling, and other support services
  • Populates the university’s faculty information system with data to establish teaching credentials and maintains data, as needed
  • Attends faculty orientation and meetings, as requested by the college
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in marketing or 18 graduate credits in discipline plus a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education, or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University
Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate in marketing (Ph.D., DBA, or similar) from a regionally accredited institution or other appropriate accreditation as determined by Johnson & Wales University
  • Education or industry experience specialization in business and/or a related field
  • Publications and an active research agenda or continued connection with industry
  • Ability to contribute through research, teaching, industry experience and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience
  • Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students
  • Relevant certifications
