Job summary

RTX invites motivated students to join a Hybrid internship/co-op in Cedar Rapids, IA, to support Advanced Operations Engineering. You will help develop and deploy digital tools for modernizing aerospace manufacturing and collaborate with experienced engineers on pilot projects.

You will explore AI, IoT, and industrial software, while learning how digital systems connect with real-world factory operations and contributing to safer, more productive plants.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, IT, or related STEM field and enrolled through internship/co-op.
• Experience with Python, Power BI, IoT systems and industrial software is required.
• Experience with data cleaning, organizing, visualizing, or interpreting data.

Responsibilities

• Support in researching emerging technologies and pilot projects within a digital team.

What You Will Do:

The Factory Enablement Co-op will support the Advanced Operations Engineering in developing and deploying digital tools that help modernize aerospace manufacturing. This role is ideal for a student who enjoys exploring new technologies, solving problems, and learning how digital systems connect with real-world factory operations. You will work alongside experienced engineers and technologists to investigate emerging technologies, assist with pilot projects, and help improve the digital capabilities of our manufacturing sites. This co-op offers a hands‑on opportunity to gain practical experience with advanced tools used in "Smart Factory" environments.

What You Will Learn:

• Technology Exploration & Support: Assist in researching emerging technologies such as AI, IoT devices, software systems that power our factory (ie CMMS, RTLS, etc.). Help evaluate whether these tools can improve safety, quality, or productivity in manufacturing.
• Pilot Project Assistance: You will be an active member within a digital team to prototype and deploy solutions to our factories. You may support proof-of-concept projects by gathering data, documenting results, helping configure digital tools, and preparing materials for scaling successful pilots.
• Systems Thinking: Learn how people, processes, and digital systems connect on the factory floor. Help identify basic workflow or data challenges and propose practical digital enhancements.
• Digital Tool Deployment: Help create simple, standardized documentation or templates that make new technologies easier to deploy across multiple sites.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with teams such as DT/IT, EHS, Quality, Supply Chain, and shop‑floor technicians to understand their needs and help translate them into digital requirements.
• Technical Communication: Prepare clear summaries, diagrams, or presentations that explain digital concepts or project results to non-technical audiences.
• Operational Support: Assist with troubleshooting digital tools or connectivity issues under the guidance of site engineers or technologists.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Experience with modern technologies such as Python, Power BI, IoT systems (Ignition, Kepware, etc), automation, or industrial software (MES, ERP, PLM).
• Experience working with data‑cleaning, organizing, visualizing, or interpreting it.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience in manufacturing environments and hands‑on digital problem solving.
• Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
