Job summary

Asheville City Schools seeks a Family Consumer Science & Career Development Coordinator Teacher at Asheville Middle School. The teacher will develop and deliver FACS instruction, lead the College and Career Exploration program, and sponsor FCCLA while coordinating career exploration experiences with industry partners.

The role requires NC licensure with FACS endorsement and CDC/CDF credentials, plus a commitment to professional development and school improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina teaching license with an endorsement in Family and Consumer Science (FACS 710 or 716) and meet requirements for CDC 747 or CDF 749.
• Completed a state-approved teacher preparation program in Family and Consumer Science (bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution and passing Praxis 5122).
• To convert to a Continuing CDC license, completion of NCDA FCD course and NCDPI Induction is required (or option 2: 6 college credits in counseling theory and career development + Induction).
• Prior teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging and standards-based FACS instruction aligned with NC Standards and Career Clusters Framework.
• Provide instruction in FACS pathways and middle grades modules (Foods and Nutrition, Wellness, Interior Design).
• Integrate real-world applications, early career exploration, project-based learning, and 21st-century skills.
• Deliver CDC functions: administer career interest inventories, introduce career clusters, organize guest speakers, and facilitate work-based learning experiences.
• Sponsor CTSO activities (FCCLA) to develop leadership and occupational skills.

Education

North Carolina teaching license with FACS endorsement (FACS 710 or 716)

Career Development Coordinator (CDC 747) or Career Development Facilitator (CDF 749) requirements

Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science from regionally accredited institution
