Job summary

Job Summary

The Facility Worker I reports to the Physical Plant Director at Lamar State College Orange. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform general repairs and preventative maintenance to college buildings, vehicles, and mechanical equipment.
  • Operate equipment and power tools as needed (scissor lift, forklift, tractor, carpentry tools, shop tools, mowers, chainsaw, etc.).
  • Perform general grounds maintenance as needed, including trash removal, event clean up, etc.
  • Move office furniture and equipment.
  • Deliver office furniture to offsite locations.
  • Set up stage, tables, and chairs for college functions, and take down the same.
  • Assist faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors as necessary to successfully accomplish the mission of LSCO.
  • Support offsite, after hours, and remote events as necessary.
  • Perform courier/mailroom duties.
  • Assist with security duties as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as may be determined by the Physical Plant Director or Director’s designee.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE: One year’s experience in general repair maintenance is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Requirements

  • Demonstrate ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Pass a general mechanical aptitude test.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of various safe work practices.
  • Demonstrate safe working practices using hand tools.
  • Demonstrate safe driving skills, including trailer backing.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate basic software skills—Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Skills

  • General knowledge of drywall, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical wiring, and basic mechanical aptitude a plus.
  • General knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of general maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate and care for lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as a motorized forklift, scissor lift, tractor, etc.
  • Ability to operate a pressure washer.
