Job summary

Mercy Perry (Perryville, MO) Facility Systems Technician supports hospitals and clinics, operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems with minimal supervision.

This role requires strong communication, problem solving, and safety focus to ensure an Environment of Care. Training includes EPA, Tank, UL fire stop, NFPA awareness; preferred licensure in Boiler/HVAC/Refrigeration.

Qualifications

• Able to read and understand technical manuals and schematics.
• Must obtain Tank Operator Certification within 90 days.
• EPA Universal Certification required within 12 months.
• Fire door and UL fire stop training completed or within 90 days.
• Experience with HVAC, boilers, and refrigeration preferred.

Job description

Find your calling at Mercy! This is a skilled position requiring advanced knowledge of boiler, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical distribution, control system maintenance and operation, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, and painting.

The position will minimal supervision and support small and midsize hospitals, critical access hospitals, small inpatient/outpatient facilities, and clinics.

The Facility Systems Technician provides the necessary skill to operate, maintain, and repair various electrical/plumbing systems, movable equipment, physical plant equipment, furniture, walls, ceilings, and floors.

Utilizes exceptional customer service and communication skills.

The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe working environment and support an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy.

Qualifications Required

• Education: N/A
• Preferred Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School.
• Licensure: Valid Driver's License for all Mercy locations Class C
• Tank Operator Training and Certification required for all Mercy locations. Must achieve certification within 90 days of employment.
• EPA Universal Certification as required by 40CFR, Part 82, Subpart F for all Mercy locations. Must achieve certification within 12 months of employment.
• Fire door maintenance training program with certificate of completion. Incumbents must have training. New hires will be required to complete training within 90 days of employment.
• UL fire stop training with certificate of completion. Incumbents must have training. New hires will be required to complete training within 90 days of employment.
• Preferred Licensure: Boiler, HVAC, or Refrigeration. Electrical and/or Plumbing. Prefer training in NFPA 80 regulations for fire door inspection and maintenance.
• Experience: 1 to 3 years commercial experience working with HVAC, boilers, and refrigeration equipment.
• Licensure: Boiler, HVAC, or Refrigeration. Electrical and/or Plumbing.
• Preferred Experience: 5 or more years working in a facility maintenance position within a healthcare environment.

Other Skills and Knowledge

Requires oral and written communication skills to communicate with customers and follow instructions. Verbal ability required to read and understand technical manuals. Numerical ability required to make calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation and repair of equipment. Ability to prioritize work assignments, conceptualize and formulate finished product. Form perception is required when measuring and installing parts and equipment. Spatial ability required to understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications. Requires knowledge and use of various computer software such as Outlook, TMS and/or Nuvolo. Ability to manage time and materials efficiently. Completes work assignments in a high-quality manner and the lowest cost to Mercy. Requires exceptional customer service skills and ability to achieve department goals. Incumbent must achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exam prior to advancing to Facility Systems Technician III. Requires general manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude. Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
