Qualifications

Facility Operator I

Summary

The Facility Operator supports the daily operation, monitoring, inspection, basic upkeep, and cleaning of critical facility utility and environmental systems that enable continuous 24/7 battery manufacturing. Systems include chillers, boilers, cooling towers, compressed air, HVAC, dust and fume collection, pumps, and related equipment. This entry-level role focuses on following standard operating procedures, performing routine tasks, maintaining 5S standards, and assisting the utility crew. Operators develop basic electrical awareness while working under close supervision to support safe and efficient facility operations, with a development path toward Facility Technician positions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the operation and monitoring of utility equipment including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, compressed air systems, pumps, and HVAC units under the direction of the Shift Lead or senior technicians
• Perform routine checks on system parameters including temperature, pressure, and flow, and report abnormal readings or alarms promptly
• Support basic tasks such as material input, filter changes, lubrication, and simple adjustments following established SOPs and work instructions
• Conduct visual and routine inspections of equipment, identify obvious issues, and elevate to the Shift Lead or supervisor
• Respond to basic abnormal conditions by notifying the Shift Lead immediately
• Recognize and report basic electrical issues, such as tripped breakers, unusual motor sounds, warning lights on control panels, or simple electrical alarms
• Assist with basic electrical-related tasks under supervision, such as resetting approved controls, checking power supplies to equipment, or supporting lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
• Follow electrical safety protocols and apply fundamental concepts including electrical hazards, proper grounding, and de-energizing equipment before maintenance
• Strictly follow all health, safety, environmental, and fire regulations, including proper use of required PPE
• Accurately record operating data, inspection results, and maintenance activities in the Equipment Management System (EMS) or CMMS as instructed
• Track basic non-conformances, scrap, and equipment observations and report them to the supervisor
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization in accordance with 5S3R Standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container)
• Perform cleaning tasks on designated equipment and surrounding areas during downtime or per cleaning SOPs
• Support housekeeping, material handling, and general facility support activities to ensure smooth operations
• Work collaboratively as part of the utility crew and assist with tasks as assigned by the Facility Shift Lead
• Participate in cross-training, continuous improvement initiatives, and skill development programs designed to build technical competency and support advancement to Facility Technician positions
• Participate in safety briefings, 5S audits, and quality checks
• Learn and follow operating manuals, SOPs, and safety procedures
• Maintain regular and reliable on-site attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned to support facility reliability and production goals

Essential Employee Status

This position supports essential manufacturing operations. The role requires availability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, and to respond to operational issues, emergency events, and emergency call‑ins when it is safe to do so. Team members are expected to demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability in accordance with company attendance policies.

Experience

• 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment; previous 24/7 manufacturing experience is a plus
• Basic electrical knowledge or experience preferred, such as awareness of electrical safety, familiarity with common electrical hazards in industrial settings, or prior exposure to motors, controls, or simple electrical systems through vocational training, previous manufacturing roles, or hands‑on experience
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn equipment operation, routine maintenance, and utility systems
• Prior exposure to utility systems such as HVAC or compressed air, or to high‑tech manufacturing environments including battery, semiconductor, or chemical, preferred
• Understanding of 5S methodology and safety protocols in a manufacturing setting preferred
• Demonstrated reliable work history and consistent attendance in prior employment

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for periods of up to 12 hours: safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, nitrile gloves, ear protection, and cleanroom suit
• Must be able to repeatedly lift, push, and pull materials or equipment for periods of up to 12 hours
• Must be able to repeatedly stoop, twist, and bend for periods of up to 12 hours
• Must be able to repeatedly reach overhead for periods of up to 12 hours
• Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout facility and utility areas for extended periods
• Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods
• Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer systems
• Work may occur in mechanical rooms, utility areas, rooftops, or other industrial environments
• Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals
• Exposure to noise, heat, chemical vapors, dust, mechanical equipment, and other controlled substances may occur depending on system location and process assignment
• Strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory
• Employees must properly wear and maintain assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times within designated areas
• Required PPE may include respirators, chemical‑resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment
