Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in shipping/receiving, materials handling, or a laboratory or facility setting preferred.
• Prior experience handling regulated (chemical, biological, or radioactive) materials is a plus but not required; on-the-job radiation safety training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming shipments of laboratory supplies and non-hazardous radioactive isotopes.
• Perform radiation surveys and wipe tests on packages using survey meters and dosimetry equipment.
• Maintain receiving records, chain-of-custody documentation, and inventory in the tracking system.
• Manage inventory levels and decay status of isotopes and materials.
• Transport and stage supplies to storage areas, hot labs, or points of use.
• Collect and stage non-hazardous waste for decay-in-storage or disposal with proper logging.
• Support general materials handling, housekeeping, and facility upkeep tasks.

POSITION TITLE: Facility Operations Technician, Radiopharmacy Materials & WasteREPORTING LOCATION: Rockville, MDREPORTS TO (TITLE): Manager, Facility OperationsPRIMARY OBJECTIVE: Support Facility Operations by receiving, verifying, and distributing incoming supplies, materials, and low-level non-hazardous radioactive isotopes used in radiopharmaceutical development. Collect, stage, and dispose of related facility waste streams safely and in compliance with radiation safety and regulatory requirements.DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS:Receive, unpack, and inspect incoming shipments of laboratory supplies, materials, and non- hazardous radioactive isotopes used in radiopharmaceutical development, verifying contents against packing slips, purchase orders, and shipping documentation.Perform radiation surveys and wipe tests on incoming and outgoing radioactive material packages using survey meters and dosimetry equipment, in accordance with radiation safety procedures.Log and maintain accurate receiving records, chain-of-custody documentation, and radioactive material inventory in the applicable tracking system upon receipt.Maintain ongoing inventory of non- hazardous radioactive isotopes and materials remaining after studies, tracking decay status and activity levels until items are cleared for disposal, decay-in-storage, or further use.Transport and stage received supplies and isotopes to designated storage areas, hot labs, or point-of-use locations, following established handling and security protocols.Collect, segregate, and stage non-hazardous radioactive, chemical, and biological waste for decay-in-storage, pickup, or disposal, and maintain accurate waste logs and labeling to support regulatory and client audits.Monitor supply and consumable inventory levels; flag shortages or reorder needs to Facility Operations leadership.Support general materials handling, housekeeping, and facility upkeep tasks as assigned.Assist with basic equipment checks, calibration support, and preventive maintenance tasks under supervision.Complete and maintain required radiation safety, hazardous waste, and other compliance training.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Willingness to learn and consistently follow radiation safety principles and safe handling procedures for radioactive, chemical, and biological materials and waste.Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping and inventory documentation.Ability to follow written procedures and verbal instructions precisely and safely.Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to track multiple materials and shipments simultaneously.Basic computer skills for inventory, logging, and email systems.Team-oriented, reliable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced laboratory and facility environment.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or an associate degree in a science-related field a plus.0-2 years of experience in shipping/receiving, materials handling, or a laboratory or facility setting preferred.Prior experience handling regulated (chemical, biological, or radioactive) materials is a plus but not required; on-the-job radiation safety training will be provided.Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain radiation worker training/certification required for this role.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:Must be able to lift and move packages and containers weighing up to 50 pounds.Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and use hands to grasp, handle, and feel for extended periods.Must be able to push and pull carts and perform repetitive motions, such as reaching, pulling, or pushing, to move materials throughout a multi-level facility.Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including radiation dosimetry badges.This role may involve handling sealed, labeled, or shielded packages containing non-hazardous radioactive materials, but does not involve direct contact with radiation sources.
