Job description

The Facility Manager is responsible for managing and operating a large volume facility or multiple asset-based locations. This position will oversee and be responsible for execution of all processes, including daily operations, logistics, directing operational activities across multiple teams, training and development of team members, mix and blending of inventory qualities, ensuring understanding and compliance of safety processes/procedures, customer relations, and enhancing Scoular's ability to operate and grow our business.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of inventory management, including product segregation, product conditioning, maintaining inventory quality, maximizing mix and blend activities, controlling shrink, ensuring accurate weights and grades on inbound and outbound shipments, and achieving contract specification on all shipments.
  • Partner with the business managers, originators and merchants to coordinate all transportation and maintenance needs for the facility to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Provide strong execution focus with increased awareness and understanding of commodity and operational complexity, including shuttle loaders, mix and blend, and related activities.
  • Provide strategic plans to Scoular leadership to maintain the facility in industry-competitive performance capability through preventive maintenance programs and capital improvement strategies.
  • Responsible for product quality, quantity and inventories, including inbound and outbound product flow.
  • Accountable for providing impeccable service to our customers.
  • Direct vendors and customers in the daily processes of the property.
  • Maintain a basic to intermediate understanding of Merchandising and Accounting.
  • Identify and contribute to revenue-generating ideas and activities to grow the bottom line.
  • Responsible for planning and execution of operational and merchandising strategies for the facility(s) and trade unit.

Safety:

  • Champion the employee safety agenda and drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Operate the facility(s) in an efficient and safe manner. Partner with the Safety team to ensure the safety of the location’s workforce by complying with all Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Provide leadership in monthly safety meetings and training and perform location inspections.
  • Ensure equipment is functional, safe and in good repair.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental requirements.

Team Leadership:

  • Manage multiple teams to include operators, trainees and superintendents. Partner with the Facility Group Manager and functional partners to support and execute recruiting, training, development and workflow of the team.
  • Responsible for talent management and development.
  • Drive empowered decision making with clear accountability.
  • Engage and inspire teams through inclusive leadership, making Scoular a great place to work.
  • Identify and participate in collaboration opportunities between businesses within the Division and across Divisions.

Physical Environment/Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time job that will require overtime and flexibility in scheduling needs outside of traditional office hours and over the weekends.
  • Conditions can include: hot summer temperatures (90-120 degrees), cold winter temperatures (below freezing-subzero) and windy conditions (in excess of 40 MPH).
  • Work for long periods of time without smoking tobacco.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with high levels of grain dust.
  • Must be able to bend and reach in normal range of movement.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds several times per day.
  • Must be able to remain standing on hard surfaces for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb ladders of various heights.
  • Must be able to work in confined/tight spaces.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical labor at times in excess of two hours.
  • Must be able to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hardhat, safety glasses, respirators, etc.

This position must have:

  • Ability to operate mechanical and power tools commonly used at a grain elevator facility.
  • Ability to use a keyboard, view and read computer screens, and run other office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a standard office telephone.
  • Knowledge of Digital, MS O365, Mobile, SharePoint, is preferred.

  • Basic understanding of merchandising, safety and operational processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience with recruitment and additional supervisory experience.
