Job summary

Border States is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Assistant to support the Project Manager-Facilities at the Border States Branch Support Center in Fargo, ND. The role involves surveying facilities for repairs, performing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing tasks, and coordinating with contractors when needed.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, strong mechanical aptitude, and experience with industrial equipment and PLC automation.

Qualifications

• Windows/Internet/Email and SAP software knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Survey buildings and grounds to identify repairs and notify supervisor.
• Perform simple repairs and adjustments on mechanical, electrical, appliances, and plumbing as needed.
• Conduct regular preventive maintenance on plant equipment and establish maintenance schedules.
• Develop and maintain work logs, inventory and maintenance records.
• Coordinate with outside service providers or contractors as needed.
• Handle non-technical tasks such as snow removal, landscaping, and clean-up.
• Ensure light fixtures are operational and bulbs changed as needed.
• Receive freight, inspect materials, and process defects if necessary.
• Perform packaging and shipping for corporate departments.
• Order and manage packaging supplies and coordinate shipments to other locations.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Surveys buildings and grounds, locates and identifies areas in need of repair, determines necessary repairs and performs work as appropriate or reports problems to supervisor.
• Makes simple repairs and adjustments on mechanical, electrical, appliance, and plumbing as needed, and records areas for repairs requiring contractor or service provider involvement.
• Performs regular preventive maintenance to plant equipment such as greasing valves, pumps, pneumatics, HVAC systems and makes minor equipment adjustments.
• Develops and maintains work logs, inventory and equipment control records and preventive maintenance records.
• Establishes a schedule for periodic maintenance for buildings and grounds and collaborates with supervisor to address items needing attention.
• Coordinates work with outside service providers or contractors as needed.
• Performs non-technical tasks such as snow removal and watering and maintenance of landscaping features, cleaning and painting touch-up.
• Ensures all light fixtures are operational, changes light bulbs as necessary.
• Responsible for the receiving of in-coming freight and checking material for damages or shortages and follow up with processing of defective materials if necessary.
• Performs packaging and shipping functions for corporate departments.
• Orders and maintains inventory of packaging supplies, coordinates shipments or transfers to BSE branch locations as needed.

Non-essential Functions

• Loads or unloads material, parts or products onto or from pallets, skids, conveyors or trucks.
• May be required to perform a variety of cleaning tasks including but not limited to: dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, trash collection and removal, restroom and common area cleaning. Works collaboratively with Administration team members for event and meeting execution.
• Moves furniture and equipment as needed and provides logistical assistance for set up and tear down.
• Assists corporate receptionist with mailing operations, as needed, which may include coordinating incoming and outgoing USPS mail with mailing service, coordinating pickup of statements and invoices.
• Assists with running errands, i.e. courier to other local BSE locations, retrieving supplies/materials for tasks, holding objects (materials requiring more than one person), cleaning up after completion of tasks, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of general maintenance and methods.
• Working knowledge of the techniques, tools and materials used in the maintenance and repair of the industrial machinery and equipment which may include boilers, pumps, drives, tanks, heat exchangers, VAV's, back flows, HVAC, motors, valves.
• Experience trouble shooting PLC and automation equipment.
• Experience reading labels, directions, schematics, blueprints, drawings and construction diagrams.
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Currently licensed or ability to obtain a license to operate fork trucks.
• PC working knowledge for Windows, Internet, email and SAP software is a plus.
