Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Craftsman for the Department of Public Facilities. Under the direction of the Chief of Public Facilities, you will perform maintenance and repair tasks across municipal buildings and property, applying journeyman-level expertise in carpentry, painting, plumbing, plastering, or related trades.

This full-time role requires hands-on supervision of custodial staff, coordination with contractors, and readiness to respond to emergencies

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years custodial experience.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• One year supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial work and minor repairs in municipal buildings.
• Maintain grounds and operate HVAC and cleaning equipment.
• Respond to emergencies and priority service requests.
• Supervise custodial staff and schedule work.
• Liaise with contractors and vendors; ensure safety and compliance.
• Open/close facilities and act as essential personnel.
