Job summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, NY seeks a Mechanic A to perform repair and maintenance across building systems, reading blueprints and following safety procedures under the collective bargaining agreement. The role may require on-call response and overtime as needed, with experience in preventive maintenance and multiple trades.

Responsibilities include electrical, plumbing, carpentry tasks, fixture installation, and overall facility upkeep.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Three years of trades/technical experience or completion of an approved training program.
• All applicable licenses and permits.
• Ability to read and interpret documents and follow written/oral/diagrammatic forms.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and replace circuits using wire, raceway, or conduit; install conduits and boxes, test equipment and document tests.
• Install, repair, and replace fixtures including faucets, drains, vent valves and related components.
• Maintain and repair piping, valves, and warm/cold water systems; measure, cut, thread and fit pipe; braze/solder as needed.
• Patch, plaster, and paint walls; maintain records and assist in evaluating new equipment.
