Youth Opportunity & Rockdale Youth Academy is seeking a dedicated Facility Maintenance Worker to maintain a safe, functional environment for youth and staff at Rockdale Youth Academy in Rockdale, Texas.

The role requires a high school diploma, background check, and strong organizational and communication skills. Typical duties include maintenance, inspections, safety oversight, and coordinating with contractors in a mission-driven setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain security systems and access control.
• Support program managers by identifying and coordinating maintenance projects.
• Track and ensure timely completion of inspections and deficiencies.
• Direct contractor activities related to facility maintenance and grounds.

Location: Rockdale, Texas - Rockdale Youth Academy
Job Type: Full-Time | Monday – Friday, Day Shift
Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 /hr

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at‑risk youth. Rockdale Youth Academy in Rockdale, Texas is a 65‑bed secure Youth Academy for males ages10 to17, offering trauma‑informed care across mental health, substance abuse, and sex‑offender treatment needs. The center integrates clinical therapy, education (via Inspire Academy, including GED prep), restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, and life skills training.

Youth typically stay 6 to9months, engaging in individual, family, and group therapy; victim‑impact awareness; pre‑vocational preparation; and enrichment activities such as art, music, and recreation. Small group living units, Youth Advisory Board‑guided incentive programs, and licensed dietitian‑managed nutrition support stabilization and reintegration planning.

Facility Maintenance Worker Responsibilities

• Manage building services including maintenance, groundskeeping, parking areas, and facility safety
• Conduct regular building inspections and take proactive steps to ensure a safe, efficient, and presentable environment
• Oversee safety and security measures, including fire, burglary, and facility closures
• Monitor and maintain close circuit security systems and access card operations
• Support program managers by identifying and coordinating maintenance projects and repairs
• Track and maintain facility fire and health inspections and ensure timely resolution of deficiencies
• Direct contractor activities related to facility maintenance, equipment, and grounds

Other Duties Include

• Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth
• Participate in training and development activities as required
• Report any acts, incidents, or conditions reflecting inappropriate behavior
• Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per guidelines
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to pass background check and drug screen
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to foster a positive, team-oriented work environment

Preferred Experience

• 3+ years’ experience in facility maintenance or related roles
• Prior project management experience strongly preferred

Other Requirements

• Physical Demands: Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 75 pounds. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision. Ability to drive for extended periods.
• Other: Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license. Must meet company auto insurance requirements. Must meet state criminal background check and pre-employment screening requirements.
