The Facility Maintenance Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Operations to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Maintenance Department. This position ensures that the general maintenance work of the Science Museum Oklahoma building is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the strategic objectives of the Facilities Maintenance Department in collaboration with the Operations Director.
- Oversee daily operations of the Facilities Maintenance department and staff.
- Coordinate hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating staff.
- Work on cross-departmental projects to meet Museum goals.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards.
- Assist in planning and adhering to departmental budget.
- Schedule work assignments, set priorities, and direct subordinate employees.
- Maintain records, prepare reports, and handle correspondence related to the work.
- Determine materials, supplies, and equipment needs.
- Ensure work complies with OSHA regulations and Museum safety standards.
- Inspect equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Supervise maintenance of the building and grounds, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, painting, and general repairs.
- Conduct regular inspections of the building, grounds, roof, and basement to identify maintenance needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience as a supervisor or lead worker over a maintenance department or crew.
- At least 5 years of maintenance experience in a professional or commercial setting.
- Apprentice or Journeyman license in a trade is a plus.
- Must be able to drive for business purposes, pass Motor Vehicle Records check, and provide proof of insurance and a valid license annually.

- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and regulations.
- Ability to develop efficient work schedules.
- Proficient in operating tools and equipment, including forklifts, pallet jacks, and dollies.
- Knowledge of building maintenance, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing, painting, and general repairs.
Working Conditions
This role involves working in an active children’s museum setting and in non-climate-controlled areas like warehouses and loading docks. Tasks may include working in dark, tight spaces, on ladders, and performing physical activities such as crawling, climbing, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 100 pounds. This is a safety-sensitive position requiring driving for business purposes and meeting physical demands with or without accommodations.
Working Relationships
This position supervises Facilities Maintenance employees and maintains positive relationships with management, staff, vendors, and the public.
