Job summary

Camelot Facility & Property Management is seeking an experienced Facility Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance operations at a higher-education academic and research facility. You will lead a maintenance team, monitor building systems, and ensure safety, reliability, and compliance for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The role requires strong leadership, program management, and budget oversight, with a focus on preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, and regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in facilities management, engineering, construction management, business, or related field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 7+ years progressive facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • 3+ years supervisory/management experience preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, government, healthcare, research, or complex institutional environments is preferred.
  • Relevant facility management or technical certifications are a plus.
  • CMMS software and Microsoft Office proficiency required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, train, and develop maintenance personnel.
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Monitor building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety.
  • Conduct facility inspections and prioritize safety/compliance repairs.
  • Manage work orders, equipment records, and maintenance performance through a CMMS.
  • Coordinate vendors, contractors, inspections, and specialty repairs.
  • Communicate with institutional representatives about facility conditions, requests, projects, and outages.
  • Manage budgets, purchasing, invoices, contracts, supplies, and equipment inventory.
  • Support procurement and documentation requirements for public-sector work.
  • Maintain operating procedures, equipment manuals, safety records, and compliance documents.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, accessibility, fire, and building requirements.
  • Coordinate emergency response for equipment failures and outages.
  • Participate in after-hours or on-call coverage as required.

Description

Camelot is seeking an experienced Facility Maintenance Manager to oversee maintenance operations at a higher-education academic and research facility. This position leads the maintenance team and helps provide a safe, reliable, accessible, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead, schedule, train, and develop maintenance personnel.
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Monitor HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, building automation, and fire and life-safety systems.
  • Conduct facility inspections and prioritize repairs based on safety, compliance, and campus needs.
  • Manage work orders, equipment records, and maintenance performance through a CMMS.
  • Coordinate vendors, contractors, inspections, and specialty repairs.
  • Communicate regularly with institutional representatives regarding facility conditions, service requests, projects, and planned outages.
  • Manage budgets, purchasing, invoices, contracts, supplies, and equipment inventory.
  • Support public-sector procurement and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain operating procedures, equipment manuals, safety records, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure work complies with applicable safety, environmental, accessibility, fire, and building requirements.
  • Coordinate emergency response for equipment failures, utility interruptions, severe weather, and other facility incidents.
  • Participate in after-hours or on-call coverage as required.
Requirements
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development skills.
  • Working knowledge of commercial or institutional building systems.
  • Experience managing preventive maintenance, vendors, contractors, and budgets.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in an active campus environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management, business, or a related field preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible facility maintenance experience preferred.
  • Three or more years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, government, healthcare, research, or another complex institutional environment is preferred.
  • Relevant facility management or technical certifications are a plus.
Physical And Work Requirements

This position requires regular walking and inspection of building, mechanical rooms, rooftops, utility areas, and exterior spaces. The employee may be required to climb stairs or ladders, work in varying environmental conditions, use personal protective equipment, and safely lift or move materials consistent with established safety requirements.
