Job summary

Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice in Dalton, GA seeks a Facility Director 1 for Elbert Shaw Regional Youth Detention Center. You will oversee the operation and administration of a correctional facility, shape security policies, and guide senior staff to ensure safety, compliance and program delivery.

This role requires strong leadership, budget awareness, and the ability to manage large teams and complex operations across detention facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of directly job-related experience in criminal justice or correctional system, two years in management OR four years supervisory custodial experience with two years at manager level OR four years directly related experience with eighteen months at lower-level supervisor role.

Responsibilities

• Direct and monitor state prison security functions and activities to maintain custody and security of prisoners.
• Identify training needs and provide guidance and training to correctional staff; interview, hire, direct, train, evaluate, and if necessary discipline staff.
• Manage human resources and direct administrative activities for corrections staff.
• Oversee operations and activities of correctional facilities and detention centers.
• Monitor budget activities of correctional facilities.
• Inspect and evaluate operations, programs, services, activities, and conditions.
• Oversee inspections, searches, investigations, and evaluations.
• Perform crisis response, containment, and intervention in emergencies.
• Plan and coordinate various correctional programs and activities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Or four (4) years of directly related experience in a criminal justice or correctional system, eighteen (18) months of which experience is required at the lower-level Mgr, Correctional Administration (PSM080) or position equivalent.
