Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms and/or assigned work areas by utilizing proper cleaning methods.
  • May include but not limited to sweeping, dusting, mopping, waxing, and vacuuming.
  • Replenishes supplies as necessary.
  • Cleans kitchens, lounges, hallways, stairwells, offices, conference rooms and other public areas as assigned by using proper cleaning methods.
  • Removes trash/garbage and recycle items.
  • Cleans receptacles and janitorial closets as necessary.
  • Cleans furnishings, light fixtures, and/or air conditioning vents using proper cleaning methods or equipment.
  • Washes windows and/or sweeps stairwells.
  • Reports building damages or problems to supervisor.
  • Performs deep carpet cleaning, spot‑treating, and steam cleaning in high‑traffic areas.
  • Monitors stock levels of cleaning chemicals, paper products, and maintenance supplies; report levels before supplies run low.
  • Executes targeted sanitization schedules for high‑touch surfaces during peak operational hours.
  • Uses a tablet, smartphone, or computer to receive, track, update, and close out daily maintenance and custodial work orders.
  • Coordinates post‑event cleanup and asset recovery for large campus gatherings, ensuring spaces are restored to operational standards.

Florida Atlantic University is seeking two Facility Custodial Staff - Boca Raton, FL. In this essential role, Custodial Staff help ensure campus facilities are clean, safe, and welcoming for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position performs a variety of cleaning and light maintenance duties, using proper methods, equipment, and safety procedures to maintain high standards of cleanliness and operational readiness.

Responsibilities
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms and/or assigned work areas by utilizing proper cleaning methods.
  • May include but not limited to sweeping, dusting, mopping, waxing, and vacuuming.
  • Replenishes supplies as necessary.
  • Cleans kitchens, lounges, hallways, stairwells, offices, conference rooms and other public areas as assigned by using proper cleaning methods.
  • Removes trash/garbage and recycle items.

  • Cleans (dusts and/or washes) furnishings, light fixtures, and/or air conditioning vents using proper cleaning methods or equipment.

  • May include moving furniture or furnishings, room set up including linen or changing linen, and minor maintenance as necessary.
  • Safely and swiftly contains and cleans up chemical, hazardous, or non-hazardous spills using proper absorption and disposal protocols.
  • Conducts daily campus walks to ensure buildings and property are safe, secure, and well-maintained, including entrances, fence lines, golf carts, trash items, etc.
  • Operates specialized cleaning equipment such as industrial floor buffers, automatic scrubbers, carpet extractors.
  • Performs deep carpet cleaning, spot‑treating, and steam cleaning in high‑traffic areas.
  • Monitors stock levels of cleaning chemicals, paper products, and maintenance supplies; report levels before supplies run low.
  • Executes targeted sanitization schedules for high‑touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, elevator buttons, keyless entries, railings) during peak operational hours.
  • Uses a tablet, smartphone, or computer to receive, track, update, and close out daily maintenance and custodial work orders.
  • Coordinates post‑event cleanup and asset recovery for large campus gatherings, ensuring spaces are restored to operational standards.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or completion of 9th grade and one year of appropriate experience required.

Salary and Employment

Salary: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour.

Non‑Exempt Support Personnel (SP) College or Department: College of Education: FAUS - District and School Programs.

Location: Boca Raton.

Work Days and Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
