Job Description

The facility cook is responsible for organizing and operating an industrial kitchen by managing all aspects of food preparation supervision and execution. The cook ensures that all food service functions at the residential facility are performed in a safe environment. This includes menu planning, purchasing, preparation, distribution, and record keeping, aligned with the quality and budgetary objectives of the agency.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversee food service for approximately twenty women and their children.
  2. Create and plan weekly menus with input from the women to facilitate learning in meal planning, budgeting, and healthy nutrition for themselves and their children.
  3. Educate and provide hands-on training to women on healthy nutrition and meal preparation suitable for their life stage and their children.
  4. Manage food storage, proper refrigeration, and inventory control of food and household supplies, including restocking as needed.
  5. Ensure equipment is maintained in good working order, repaired when necessary, and compliant with local health inspection requirements.
  6. Teach psychoeducational groups on food basics, nutrition, and meal preparation.
  7. Interact with co-workers, visitors, and staff in accordance with the core values of the University.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION:

  • Valid Driver's License required
  • ServSafe certification required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of three years of food preparation and handling experience, or a Culinary certificate, or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
  • Experience with menu planning and execution for large groups preferred.
