JMT's Virginia Beach Facilities CM Team is seeking a Facility Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship, except for TN visa classification.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract documents, specifications, and standards.
  • Oversee and document activities for facilities construction, including understanding of sequencing for walls, utilities behind walls, and above ceiling utilities such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology components.
  • Coordinate pre-activity planning and phasing of trades to minimize impact on weekly site activities.
  • Coordinate with site superintendent and trade foremen.
  • Provide input to progress meetings, RFIs, Change Orders, schedules, jurisdictional inspections, and code compliance.
  • Assign, schedule, and oversee subordinate inspection staff throughout all project phases.
  • Draft project correspondence, facilitate meetings, and resolve field issues on behalf of the client.
  • Measure dimensions and verify levels, alignments, and elevations to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
  • Maintain record documents and make field notes and computations.
  • Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, and other parties to respond to inquiries.
  • Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.
Nonessential Functions And Responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
Required Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted with experience).
  • 4+ years of construction inspection experience.
  • Client-requested certifications.
Preferred Experience
  • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
  • Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection.
  • Ability to act as Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field, often involving bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects up to 25 lbs. Work may be outside in various weather conditions.
