JMT's Virginia Beach Facilities CM Team is seeking a Facility Construction Inspector to apply standard inspection procedures to ongoing activities during and after construction for structural quality, general safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods to ensure compliance with legal requirements and safety regulations.
2. Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract documents, specifications, and standards.
3. Oversee and document activities for facilities construction, including understanding of sequencing of construction for walls, behind wall utilities, above ceiling utilities including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and technology components.
4. Coordinate pre-activity planning and phasing of trades for minimal impact to weekly activities on site.
5. Coordinate with site superintendent and trade foremen.
6. Provide input to progress meetings and activities such as RFIs, Change Orders, Schedules, jurisdictional inspections, and code compliance.
7. Assign, schedule, and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all phases of the project.
8. Work on behalf of the Client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction-related field issues.
9. Measure dimensions and verify level, alignment, and elevation of structures, fixtures, grades, and/or pavement to ensure compliance with plans and codes.
10. Gather and maintain record documents.
11. Make field notes and computations.
12. Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other internal and external parties to respond to inquiries.
13. Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

1. Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.
2. Strong computer proficiency.

Required Experience

1. High school diploma or equivalent (may be substituted for experience).
2. 4+ years of Construction Inspection Experience.
3. Client requested certifications.

Preferred Experience

1. Associates or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
2. Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection situations.
3. Ability to act in an Owner’s Agent/Responsible in Charge role.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
