Job summary

The Arc of Central Alabama seeks a skilled Carpenter to support maintenance across multiple facilities, including group homes, clinics, and offices. This full-time, on-site role requires carpentry expertise, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to read blueprints.

You will perform rough and finish carpentry, install fixtures, support ADA accessibility improvements, and collaborate with HVAC and electrical teams. Travel between sites is required to ensure timely repairs and upkeep.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 3–5 years of carpentry or general construction experience preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare, residential/group homes, or multi-site facilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must pass a statewide/criminal background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rough and finish carpentry including framing, drywall installation, trim work, cabinetry, and door/window installation.
  • Repair walls, ceilings, flooring, and structural components as needed.
  • Install and maintain fixtures such as handrails, shelving, cabinets, and safety equipment.
  • Perform modifications to ensure ADA accessibility and safety compliance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and work orders.
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, painting, and repairs.
  • Support unit turnovers in group homes, including repairs and renovations between residents.
  • Maintain common areas, offices, and high-traffic spaces.
  • Assist with facility upgrades, renovations, and small construction projects.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure all work complies with local building codes, OSHA regulations, and CARF standards.
  • Follow infection-control protocols when working in healthcare and residential environments.
  • Maintain safe work practices and properly use tools and equipment.
  • Identify and report safety hazards or structural concerns.
  • Travel between multiple sites (group homes, clinics, offices, transit facilities) and respond to urgent repair needs and emergency situations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders and completed tasks.
  • Collaborate with HVAC, electrical, and general maintenance staff.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment; track inventory of materials and supplies and request materials for cost-effective use of resources.
