Job summary

Cary Park District is seeking a Park and Facility Maintenance Specialist to perform routine and preventive maintenance across parks and facilities, and to complete assigned projects. The role emphasizes safety, coordination with maintenance managers, and timely work-order execution.

Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, on-site. Candidates must obtain a CPO certification within 90 days and pursue required pesticide licenses after employment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
• Two years full-time experience in field advantageous.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within 90 days after employment required.
• Illinois Pesticide Operator License within 90 days after employment required.

Description

The Park and Facility Maintenance Specialist position is responsible for routine and preventive maintenance operations as assigned in parks and recreation facilities and amenities. Complete assigned reports, projects and research studies, attend staff meetings, safety and educational training, and remain informed of current trends and issues in related areas of responsibility. Be familiar with and able to execute maintenance, repairs, and changes to pool control systems and chemical levels. In addition, the position will provide other maintenance or special assistance to other park district departments throughout the year. Provide productive and efficient labor to any crew assigned for the day by implementing an effective daily work schedule to efficiently complete park and facility maintenance operations. This position will participate in a job split focusing primarily on Facility Maintenance from April to September, and Park Maintenance from September to April. Typical hours 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday on-site.

Requirements

Essential duties include communicate operation specifics to the Superintendent and Maintenance Managers, complete assigned projects, attend staff meetings, safety and educational trainings, implement customer service procedures as applicable to the position’s operation, provide productive and efficient labor to any crew assigned for the day by implementing an effective daily work schedule to efficiently complete facility and park maintenance operations, implement facility capital equipment repairs, replacements and improvements, operate heavy machinery including tractors, high lift truck, backhoe, loader, operate chain saws and various other power tools, assist with facility maintenance operations, competency in pool chemical controls and systems, assist with approved District-wide trash collection, assist with approved District-wide tree maintenance program, assist with the District-wide snow and ice removal maintenance system, and adhere to safety and risk management procedures as applicable to the position’s operations. Minimum requirements for this position include a high school diploma or GED, associate’s degree preferred, with a minimum of two years full-time experience in the field. Certification as a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within 90 days after employment is required. Ability to obtain an Illinois Pesticide Operator License within 90 days after employment is required. Current Illinois Department of Agriculture pesticide license, certifications in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, CPO/AFO, and park maintenance experience are desirable.
