Job summary

San Francisco SPCA is seeking a Building Engineering Technician to maintain and repair the SFSPCA's MEP systems, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and installations while ensuring code compliance.

The role requires mastery in several trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting) and offers 16 hours per week on Fridays and Saturdays, reporting to the Building Engineer. Strong emphasis on animal-friendly facilities and safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; ability to read and write English and perform basic math.
• Valid CA driver’s license and insurable driving record required
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in facilities maintenance or relevant trade fields.
• Demonstrated mastery in several trades: plumbing, electrical, HVAC/mechanical, automotive, carpentry, sheetrock, painting.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on repairs and troubleshooting across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, and general building systems.
• Conduct routine inspections to ensure system safety, reliability, and code compliance.
• Lead preventative maintenance tasks and respond to repairs; support other departments as needed.
• Maintain life-safety systems including fire panels, alarms, and extinguishers.
