Job description

Description/Comment: Pay rate is $21 - Max bill rate is $31.50

They inspect, repair, and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, buildings, and work on plumbing,
basic electrical repairs and upgrades, and heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
They build partitions, make plaster or drywall repairs, and fix or paint on roofs, windows, doors, floors,
and other parts of building structures. They also maintain and repair equipment and machinery found in
cafeterias, laboratories, offices, and the factory.

Typical duties include troubleshooting and fixing faulty electrical switches, repairing and maintaining
HVAC rooftop units, lighting, and unclogging drains. They schedule, direct, and oversee outside
contractors performing repairs or upgrades. They obtain supplies and repair parts from distributors or store rooms.

Using common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers, as well as some specialized equipment
and electronic testing devices, these workers replace or fix worn or broken parts, where necessary, or
make adjustments to correct malfunctioning equipment and machines. They perform routine preventive maintenance and ensure that machines continue to run smoothly,
building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.

Following a checklist and standard work list, they may inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid
levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions. They have to keep records of their work.
They must have good reading comprehension and the ability to interpret service manuals and other
written instructions. They must be able to use a computer to send and receive e-mail, open and update
work orders, enter time sheet information, and may be trained on the use of computer-controlled HVAC
systems.

They often carry out many different tasks in a single day, at any number of locations, including indoor
and outdoor. They may be called upon to switch tasks on very short notice. They may have to stand for
long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in uncomfortably hot or cold environments, in awkward and
cramped positions, or on ladders or lifts or on the roof. They are required to participate in mandatory
company-provided training for working in various environments.

Technical and mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity are important attributes. The ability to read and
interpret blueprints and schematics is often necessary. The job involves much walking, climbing,
standing, reaching, and heavy lifting. Difficult jobs require problem-solving ability, and many tasks
require the ability to work without direct supervision. They are required to exercise good judgment and
decision-making skills when called upon to respond to unexpected facilities-related problems. To avoid
injuries, workers must follow safety precautions and use personal protective equipment and must
participate in mandatory company-provided safety and compliance training.
