If you’re the person who enjoys figuring out how things work, solving problems, working with your hands, and seeing the results of a job well done, we’d like to meet you.

What You’ll Do

As a Facilities Technician I, you’ll support maintenance and facility operations across multiple Big Bend Health locations. No two days are exactly alike.

  • Performing routine building maintenance and repairs
  • Assisting with HVAC preventive maintenance, filter changes, monitoring, and basic troubleshooting
  • Addressing routine plumbing needs such as clogs, leaks, and fixture repairs
  • Performing authorized electrical and lighting maintenance
  • Completing basic carpentry, drywall, painting, patching, shelving, cabinet, door, and hardware repairs
  • Completing preventive maintenance and facility inspections
  • Maintaining lawns, landscaping, grounds, walkways, parking areas, entrances, and other exterior spaces
  • Safely operating and maintaining lawn and grounds equipment
  • Responding to urgent facility issues, including HVAC problems, leaks, utility interruptions, plumbing failures, and other building concerns
  • Supporting emergency preparedness and disaster response activities

  • Using our work-ticket system to document work completed, materials used, inspections, and follow-up needs
  • Working professionally with employees, patients, families, visitors, vendors, and contractors

The position works both indoors and outdoors and provides exposure to a wide variety of building systems, equipment, maintenance activities, and healthcare facility environments.

Why This Role Matters

At Big Bend Health, facilities aren't simply buildings—they are the environments where patients receive care, families find support, and our teams do meaningful work.

Your work helps make sure:

  • The lights work.
  • The rooms are safe.
  • The HVAC is running.
  • The grounds are cared for.
  • Problems get fixed.
  • Emergencies get a response.
  • And our team can focus on caring for others.

That makes your role an important part of the Big Bend Health mission.

What we’re looking for “We’re Looking for Someone Who…”

You’ll be a great fit if you:

  • Enjoy hands-on work and solving problems
  • Have basic-to-intermediate knowledge of building maintenance
  • Have experience with some combination of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, construction, or general maintenance
  • Can safely use hand and power tools
  • Are comfortable working independently on routine assignments
  • Know when a problem is outside your scope and aren’t afraid to ask for help
  • Pay attention to details and complete work thoroughly
  • Understand the importance of safety in a healthcare environment
  • Communicate well and treat patients, families, coworkers, and visitors with professionalism and respect
  • Are dependable and willing to respond when critical facility issues arise
  • Take pride in keeping both buildings and grounds looking their best

  • Basic HVAC training
  • NFPA 70E/electrical safety training
  • Additional plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or mechanical training
A Role With Variety

If you want a job where you do the same task in the same place every day, this probably isn’t it.

If you want a position where you might spend part of your day troubleshooting an HVAC issue, repairing a door, completing preventive maintenance, mowing or maintaining grounds, responding to a work ticket, or helping prepare a facility for an event—you’ll have plenty of variety here.

You’ll have the opportunity to continue building your skills across multiple areas of facilities maintenance while working alongside an experienced Facilities team.

Important to Know

This is an essential, non-exempt position that reports to the Facilities Manager.

Because Big Bend Health provides essential healthcare services, participation in the established Facilities Department on-call rotation is a condition of employment. The technician must remain reachable during assigned on-call periods and be prepared to travel to a facility when an urgent situation requires an on-site response.

The position also participates in emergency and disaster preparedness, response, and recovery activities as assigned.

Ready to Put Your Skills to Work?

If you’re a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in doing things right, we’d love to hear from you.

Bring us your maintenance experience, your mechanical mindset, your willingness to learn, and your commitment to doing quality work.

At Big Bend Health, what you maintain makes a difference.
