Job summary

Abbott Laboratories in Saint Paul, MN, is seeking a Facilities Technician to join our EP-focused site. You will perform preventive and unscheduled maintenance on facility equipment, document activities in a CMMS, and support HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems across a three-building campus.

The role requires hands-on maintenance experience, the ability to read schematics, and the commitment to maintain a boiler license within a year.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 2+ years in an industrial maintenance or automation environment.
  • Hands-on experience with electricity, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair facility equipment.
  • Familiarity with maintenance terminology, tools and processes.
  • Basic computer skills and maintenance software experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on facility equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities in a CMMS.
  • Repair buildings (walls, ceilings, doors, painting, etc.).
  • Repair electrical systems, HVAC and plumbing including pumps and motors.
  • Help manage cooling water systems for HVAC processes.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Maintain boiler license or obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • Use SAP, Windchill and Infor EAM systems.
  • Maintain HVAC equipment in data centers, generators, UPS, chillers and fire suppression.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Facilities Technicianto support our Electrophysiology medical device business. This position is based at our three-building site in Little Canada. In Abbott's Electrophysiology (EP) business, we're advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

What You’ll Work On
  • Performing preventative, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance, including repairs, installations, modifications, and safety checks on facility equipment.
  • Documenting maintenance activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Responsible for repairs to buildings including, but not limited to, repairs to walls, ceilings, doors, painting, etc.
  • Repairs single and three phase electrical systems, such as air compressors, hydraulic pumps and three phase motors including HVAC and plumbing repairs.
  • Helps manage the treatment and purity of cooling water systems related to HVAC condenser water and chill water processes.
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and electrical, pneumatic, plumbing, and hydraulic schematics
  • Must have a minimum of a special boilers licenses or ability to obtain a boiler license within one year of employment. Must maintain this license going forward.
  • Utilizing systems and software including Microsoft Office, SAP, Windchill, and Infor EAM (CMMS)
  • Maintains HVAC equipment associated with Data centers such as Generators, UPS units, power distribution units, chillers , Liebert units, gas release fire suppression systems.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in an industrial maintenance or automation environment.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial electricity, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair Facility equipment.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance terminology, tools, and processes.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience working with maintenance software systems.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written procedures with accuracy.
  • Strong customer service mindset.
  • Occasional overtime is a requirement of this position.
  • Duties regularly involve moderate to heavy body and strength movements, including lifting (up to approximately 50 lbs.), moving, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling. Performs tasks, which regularly involve the use of good to excellent correctable vision and hand/eye coordination.
  • Must have general knowledge of heating and cooling systems for general facilities operations and controlled environment operations
  • Be able respond to after hour call in's on a 24/7 basis or willing to work pre scheduled call in weeks on a rotating shift with the facilities team
