About the Role (job title and summary):

The Facilities Technician I is responsible for maintaining and repairing facility systems, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient operations at the direction of the Facilities Manager. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general maintenance issues, as well as coordinating with contractors when necessary. In addition to hands-on repair work, the technician maintains accurate records, follows scheduled maintenance plans, and supports compliance efforts, all while demonstrating strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and attention to detail. How you’ll make a difference (required duties and responsibilities):

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Perform minor repairs independently and assist with major repairs under the direction of the Facilities Manager (FM), including coordinating with external contractors as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and repair facility systems and equipment, including grow lights, fans, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components.
  • Install, maintain, and repair equipment (e.g., assembling racks, installing dehumidifiers) per FM directives.
  • Follow scheduled maintenance plans, conduct routine inspections, and address issues proactively.
  • Operate, maintain, and ensure the safe use of vehicles, tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Manage facility repair requests, scheduling external maintenance when necessary while learning from contractors to reduce reliance on outside services.
  • Execute and maintain work request systems, logging all maintenance and repair activities.
  • Assist with receiving, verifying manifests, breaking down pallets, and properly storing supplies.
  • Maintain facility resources, ensuring they are well-organized, functional, and replenished as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (Scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands.)

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, equipment maintenance, cleaning, and calibration.
  • Promptly report any system failures, malfunctions, or facility damage to the FM.
  • Assist with completing daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checklists.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent – required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair – required
  • Strong knowledge of multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, tile, and general repairs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience – required
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary focus and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Computers and Technology

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to learn, navigate and accurately utilize computerized maintenance management and project management software

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance procedures, techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with HVAC, machinery, equipment, hand tools, and power tools used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and best practices to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, technical drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in troubleshooting and finding effective solutions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate as a team player and communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, trustworthiness, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday, standard business hours with flexibility for mandatory overtime as required to meet business needs.

Manufacturing environment requiring extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and reaching. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs for distances up to 100 ft may be required. Occasional extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to cut and manipulate small objects. Must be comfortable working at heights and using ladders, lifts, or scaffolding as needed. Work may also involve confined spaces or areas with limited mobility. Ability to work in a humid and pollinated environment.
