Job summary

Fountain House is seeking a Facilities Technician to perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of equipment, machinery, and systems across multiple sites in New York. You will help keep facilities safe, clean and functioning in a manner aligned with the organization’s mission.

The role requires hands-on skills in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems, the ability to read manuals and schematics, and strong teamwork with staff and members.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and troubleshoot machinery and equipment; identify issues.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, carpentry, and parts replacement.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing problems.
  • Read manuals and schematics to perform repairs.
  • Operate hand and power tools; maintain maintenance records.
  • Ensure safety guidelines are followed; perform preventative tasks.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff and managers to prioritize needs.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests promptly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area; inspect property for safety.

This includes Clubhouses in Manhattan, the Bronx, Hollywood, California and Care Management, Home and Community-Based Services and a large housing program ranging from 24 hour supervised residences to scattered site supported apartments. The Facilities Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks on a variety of equipment, machinery, and systems. Additionally, it is the Maintenance Technician is role to ensure Fountain House facilities are kept safe, clean and operate in a dignified manner consistent with the organization’s mission.

$28.12 per hour

9am to 5pm with some evenings and weekends

Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Inspect and troubleshoot machinery and equipment to identify any issues or malfunctions.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, light carpentry and replacement of parts.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing problems.
  • Reading and interpreting technical manuals and schematics to perform repairs.
  • Operating hand and power tools and other specialized tools as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
  • Ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Performing preventative maintenance tasks to avoid breakdowns and downtime.
  • Collaborating with other maintenance staff and managers to identify and prioritize maintenance needs.
  • Responding to emergency repair requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Inspect property for safety, upkeep and repairs
  • Support deliveries from vendors and suppliers
  • Perform sidewalk and garden upkeep, collect trash, etc.
  • Check functionality of safety systems (e.g., fire alarm).
  • Work with a diverse community at multiple sites. Collaborate with workers and others
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Must be dependable, flexible, proactive, approachable, learn from feedback and take initiative
  • Ability and willingness to learn new systems, read technical manuals and drawings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical stamina and dexterity is essential
  • Valid NYS driver’s license preferred.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft suite (Emails, Calendars and basic Excel spreadsheets)
  • Understanding of the organization’s mission and be willing to work in partnership with staff and members
Required And Preferred Education, Experience, And Credentials
  • High school diploma or GED, required
  • 3-5 years of maintenance experience and general knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical systems preferred
  • Must be able to obtain certificates of fitness for Fire Guard (FO1) & Supervision of Fire Alarm systems (S95) within the first year of employment
  • Other Certificates of fitness in HVAC, Standpipe and Life Safety systems is a plus
  • Experience using hand and electrical tools required
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. or more
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
