Job summary

Summit Employment Professionals is seeking a Facilities Technician for our Maize, KS facility. The role covers preventive maintenance on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems, with occasional landscaping and compliance tasks.

Monday–Friday 7:30am–4:30pm, occasional Saturdays, at our manufacturing site. You will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair equipment, maintain records, and support safety and facility operations under the Facilities Manager.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in industrial environment.
  • Technical certifications or post-secondary degree desired.
  • Experience with PLC programming desired.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives desired.
  • Experience with steam and thermal oil boilers desired.

Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular preventive maintenance on machinery and systems.
  • Repair Work: Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, replace worn or defective parts, repair HVAC/plumbing/structural elements as needed.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols, maintain safety equipment, and report hazards.
  • Record Keeping: Document maintenance activities and track parts inventory.
  • Facility Support: Respond to work orders, perform routine tasks (painting, light construction, cleaning, landscaping).
  • Communication & Coordination: Collaborate with technicians/engineers/contractors and provide feedback to management.

Job description

Overview

Work days: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm, with occasional Saturdays.

The Facilities Technician is responsible for ensuring that a building or facility operates efficiently and safely. This includes performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, and other building systems. The role may also involve landscaping, safety compliance, and implementing preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maintain optimal facility performance.

Responsibilities
  • Equipment Maintenance
    • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machinery and systems.
    • Inspect mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
    • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in equipment and facilities.
  • Repair Work
    • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, including faulty wiring, motors, or control systems.
    • Replace worn or defective parts such as bearings, filters, belts, or sensors.
    • Repair HVAC, plumbing, or structural elements as needed.
  • Safety Compliance
    • Follow and enforce all safety protocols and regulations.
    • Maintain safety equipment and ensure emergency systems (fire extinguishers, alarms) are functional.
    • Report hazardous conditions or equipment issues to supervisors.
  • Record Keeping
    • Document maintenance and repair activities.
    • Track inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
    • Update logs and schedules for preventive maintenance.
  • Facility Support
    • Respond to facility work orders and service requests.
    • Perform routine tasks such as painting, light construction, cleaning, or landscaping.
    • Ensure facilities meet operational standards.
    • Assist with other tasks requested by Facilities Manager.
  • Communication & Coordination
    • Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and contractors on maintenance projects.
    • Provide feedback to management on recurring problems or necessary upgrades.
    • Support team members by providing guidance on maintenance tasks.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the Facilities Technician may be required to stand and walk for extended periods; climb stairs, ladders, or similar structures; and work at heights or in confined spaces. The role requires coordination of hands, eyes, and other senses, as well as the ability to maintain balance while working around operating equipment.

The Facilities Technician is occasionally exposed to high temperatures and pressures, warm to hot grease, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles. Use of personal protective equipment may be required, including hearing protection and, in certain situations, a fitted respiratory mask that may restrict facial hair. Noise levels in operational areas range from moderate to high.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to dust, dirt, odors, heat, cold, humidity, and varying lighting conditions. Mechanical and electrical hazards may be present as part of routine maintenance activities, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work a schedule of five full 8-hour workdays per week
  • Perform all tasks safely and according to established procedures
  • Lift and carry 50 lbs. or more as needed
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and work at heights
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods
  • Use tools and perform tasks in awkward positions as required
Status, Location, Work Hours, and Salary/Wage
  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position at the manufacturing facility in Maize, Kansas.
  • Regular work hours are 7:30am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support maintenance or projects that cannot be completed during normal operation hours.
  • Wages start at $23.00/hour.
