Job summary

Highlands Ranch Metro District is seeking a Facilities Technician at Technician I or II level to maintain district buildings, grounds, and parks and collaborate with outside contractors on facility projects.

Responsibilities include routine inspections, safety compliance, and operating a range of heavy and small tools. Training and supervision may be required, with opportunities to contribute to special projects and events.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required for Technician II; 2 years’ facility/playground maintenance or construction experience for Technician I.
• NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification within one year for Technician II.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with clean MVR.
• First aid and CPR certification (Technician II).

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and operations tasks for district buildings, grounds, and parks, and assist outside contractors.
• Ensure safety policies are followed to protect staff, residents, and visitors.
• Provide quality customer service and build relationships with staff, contractors, and community groups.
• Inspect facilities and playgrounds weekly; conduct monthly electrical inspections and coordinate with electrical contractors.
• Operate district equipment such as tractors, skid steers, welders, and trucks.
• Assist with training and supervision of junior staff and coordinate annual fence and holiday light projects.

Join the Highlands Ranch Metro District team as a Facilities Technician in the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department! In this dynamic role, you'll tackle a variety of hands‑on tasks, from maintaining our beautiful parks and buildings to collaborating with contractors on exciting facility projects. Whether it’s preventive upkeep or bringing annual projects to life, your work will keep our community spaces thriving.

We offer competitive pay based on your experience and certifications. We are hiring for one position at either a Tech 1 or a Tech 2 level, see descriptions and pay below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technician I - pay is up to $26 per hour

• Performs a variety of unskilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operations of district-owned buildings, grounds, and parks. Work with outside contractors and assist with preventive and reactive maintenance, as well as annual facility related projects.
• Complies with established safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure the safety of self, co-workers, community residents, and visitors.
• Provide quality internal and external customer service, through the development of relationships with staff, contractors, community members and various organizations.
• Proactively work to support quality service delivery to the community by acting on all observed opportunities for repair, maintenance, and improved service delivery.
• Perform weekly inspections of building facilities and playgrounds.
• Perform monthly electrical inspections, minor repairs and work with outside electrical contractors when needed.
• Coordinate the installation of Holiday lights with an outside contractor annually.
• Assist with the training and/or supervision of subordinate employees.
• Operate tractors, skid steer loaders, welders, small trucks, aerial boom trucks, and all hand and power tools.
• Work with facilities staff on large and small projects, repairs, and special project requests.
• Work with the Mansion and Senior Center staff on maintenance requests.
• Maintain lighting and install new Veterans tiles at the Veterans Monument.
• Work closely with the Facilities Supervisor and appropriate facilities technician to establish and maintain a quality fence maintenance program.
• Perform required maintenance to district-owned fences and assist with the fence replacement program as needed.
• Assist with vandalism repairs and graffiti removal that may occur on District property.
• Coordinate the annual energizing and winterization of plumbed restrooms/concession areas and drinking fountains.
• Perform general repairs of the park’s facilities and district-owned buildings.
• Complete work orders using asset management system.
• Contribute to the snow removal program and adjust schedule using flextime if directed. This may include weekends, holidays and nighttime hours operating snow removal equipment.
• Respond to on-call requests to assist with emergency issues after hours.
• Assist in setting up and taking down special event equipment from various parks, recreation programs, and community events.
• Respect District property, including tools, vehicles, and equipment.
• Open and close, lock and unlock facilities as needed.
• Peripheral Duties:
  • Collaborates professionally with other Section, Division, Department and District employees.
  • May be assigned to serve as a member on various employee committees.
  • May be assigned to support other sections with duties as assigned.

Technician II – pay is up to $30 per hour

In addition to the above.

• Performs weekly inspections and repairs of building facilities and playgrounds as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector.
• Purchases replacement parts for playground equipment and maintains a good working relationship with all vendors.
• Performs removal of all types of graffiti throughout the Parks and Open Space system.
• Assist Tech IV or Facilities Supervisor with the coordination of the annual fence staining program.
• Assist Tech IV or Facilities Supervisor to oversee the fence replacement program.
• Coordinates the general repairs of Metro District owned fences.
• Identifies, documents, and notifies residents of parkway fence violations in accordance with District rules and regulations.
• Maintains District drinking fountains throughout the park system including the annual energizing and winterization of plumbed restrooms/concession areas and drinking fountains.
• Coordinate with outside sanitary contractors to pump out waste holding tanks in Park system waterless restrooms.
• Operates tractors, skid steer loaders, welders, small trucks, aerial boom trucks, and all hand and power tools.
• Trains staff on the safe and proper use of District equipment and how to complete incident and accident reports.
• Assists with the training and/or supervision of Tech I or temporary employees.
• Work cooperatively with outside entities and community partners such as HRCA and local Homeowner’s Associations.

Education, Experience and Requirements

Technician I

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School graduate or completion of G.E.D.
• Two years’ experience or education in facility maintenance, playground maintenance, or construction trades.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
• General working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in general construction projects, building maintenance, and playground maintenance.

Technician II

• High School graduate or completion of G.E.D., with emphasis on vocational trades
• Four years’ experience in facility maintenance, playground maintenance or construction trades.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
• Basic working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in general construction projects, building maintenance, and playground maintenance.
• Certified in first aid and CPR.
• Bloodborne Pathogen Training.
• Confined Space Training.
• Verbal Judo or similar customer service course.
• Must possess an NRPA Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification within one year of employment or TPC Facilities Maintenance and Repair Course and Playground Maintenance Course.
