Job summary

The Atlanta Botanical Garden is seeking a Facilities Technician to maintain building systems and ensure safe, efficient operation across our Atlanta and Gainesville locations. You will perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and support event setup as needed.

This role requires hands-on skills in carpentry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing, the ability to read instructions, a valid driver's license, and the stamina to lift up to 40 pounds during peak Garden Lights seasons.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Technical school certifications or training preferred.
  • Experience in carpentry, HVAC, electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
  • Ability to read and follow written or oral instructions.
  • Paint, electrical, plumbing, and drywall skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Capability to diagnose problems on equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and accident prevention measures.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and extended hours during Garden Lights season.
  • Valid Driver’s License with good MVR.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and repair mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Perform maintenance on interior and exterior areas including painting and drywall.
  • Operate equipment for preventive maintenance and cleaning.
  • Assist other departments with event setup.
  • Follow OSHA standards to promote a safe working environment.
  • Schedule preventive maintenance per Sr. Building Engineer.
  • Maintain inventory, records, files and MSDSs.
  • Inspect air handling units, belts, filters and greases.
  • Maintain logs of activity.
  • May perform additional maintenance duties as assigned.

We are looking for a Facilities Technician to help maintain the facilities and building systems that keep the Garden operating safely and efficiently. This position will work across both our Atlanta and Gainesville locations and may include working nights, weekends, and extended hours during our Garden Lights season.

Key Responsibilities
  • Routinely inspects facility, troubleshoots and makes repairs to the mechanical, electrical, air conditioning and plumbing systems, as well as any structural elements on the property
  • Perform a variety of maintenance/minor repair activities on the interior/exterior areas of the property including, but not limited to, painting, drywall, structural elements, including sidewalks, plumbing repairs, clears drain stoppages, interior and exterior lighting including lamp, fuse and ballast replacement
  • Operate a variety of equipment to perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs and maintain cleanliness of property
  • Assist other departments, including but not limited to, Special Events to setup events
  • Perform the job in accordance with all applicable standards, policies and regulatory guidelines (i.e. OSHA standards) to promote a safe working environment
  • Schedule and perform preventive maintenance programs as assigned by Sr. Building Engineer
  • Ensure the appropriate inventory systems, records, files, material safety data sheets, supplies, equipment and tools are maintained
  • Periodically inspect air handling units, tighten or replace belts, replace filters and grease components
  • Maintain logs to document activity
  • May perform additional maintenance duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Technical School certifications and/or training preferred
  • Building maintenance experience performing some carpentry, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing functions preferred
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form
  • Paint, electrical, plumbing, and drywall skills
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently
  • Capability to diagnose problems on equipment
  • Knowledge of basic electrical systems
  • Knowledge of safety rules, hazards and application of accident prevention measures
  • Basic knowledge of fire protection hydraulic system and fire protection alarm systems
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and extended hours during Garden Lights, Holiday Nights season
  • Valid Driver’s License with good Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
