Job summary

National Grid plc seeks a Category Manager for FM & Support Services to lead category strategies and sourcing across the US and UK. Based in the US, you will drive cross-regional alignment, manage a dispersed team and deliver value with strong governance and collaboration.

You will oversee procurement activities from strategy through contract award, engaging with stakeholders across Legal, Finance and Risk to ensure delivery, resilience and sustainable performance.

Qualifications

• Significant procurement experience with category strategies and leading complex sourcing portfolios.
• Category management experience across facilities management, real estate, security, or related indirect services.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed or cross-regional teams, including recruitment and onboarding.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders across regions and operating environments.
• Strong program and portfolio management capabilities with multiple sourcing activities and governance.
• Commercial expertise across sourcing strategy, tender design, evaluation and contracting.
• Strong analytical capability translating spend, demand, market and supplier data into category choices.
• Experience managing supply-chain, compliance and risk across US/UK contexts.
• Strategic supplier and contract relationship management for value realization.
• US procurement accreditation or equivalent is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Own the development, approval, implementation and refresh of category strategies for US/UK FM and Support Services.
• Build category plans reflecting regional needs and opportunities for cross-regional alignment.
• Define category scope, demand, supply-market dynamics and risk with robust governance.
• Translate strategies into sourcing and contract-management plans with clear milestones.
• Lead the sourcing delivery portfolio with appropriate prioritization and governance.
• Provide direction across market engagement, tendering, evaluation, negotiation and contracting.
• Review key outputs to ensure robust evaluation methods and robust commercial positions.
• Manage risks and dependencies across regions; escalate to protect outcomes and timescales.
• Ensure smooth handover from sourcing into mobilization and contract management.
• Engage with critical suppliers to improve performance and drive value and innovation.
• Lead and develop a geographically dispersed team with clear accountability.
• Oversee recruitment and onboarding for vacancies with cross-regional alignment.
• Set objectives, manage capacity across time zones, provide coaching and development.
• Build capability in category management, strategic sourcing and supplier management.
• Act as senior procurement partner providing commercial insight and decision support across regions.
