The Riverside County's District Attorney's Office is seeking to fill multiple openings county-wide for their Victim Services Advocate I position.
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK.
Under immediate supervision, to provide a wide variety of supportive services to the victims and witnesses of crimes; to coordinate the role of victims and witnesses with respect to the courts, law enforcement, and related agencies; and to perform other related duties as required.
Incumbents are given a variety of assignments subject to detailed and frequent review. Incumbents work closely with their supervisor in resolving problems to meet the individual needs of victims, witnesses, and their families. Incumbents in this class report to a Victim Services Supervisor and are distinguished from the class of Victim Services Advocate II in that the latter is assigned serious, complex crime types including, but not limited to, homicide, gang crimes and sexual assaults. This class differs from the Victim Services Supervisor in that incumbents in the latter class function as supervisors over victim/witness staff or programs, and do not carry caseloads.
Advancement within the series may be achieved through the standard County promotional process.
Knowledge of: The laws and procedures of criminal justice agencies as they affect the responsibilities and rights of victims and witnesses of crimes; crisis intervention, counseling and interviewing techniques.
Ability to: Maintain effective working relationships with others; provide psychological and emotional support to reduce trauma associated with being a victim or witness of a crime; communicate effectively in oral and written form; keep records and prepare statistical reports.
Education: Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units of coursework from a recognized college in psychology, sociology, social welfare, social/human services, criminal justice or closely related field.

Experience. One year of paid or unpaid experience providing case management, supportive or crisis intervention counseling, and advising clients of available programs, services and resources in a public or private social service or criminal justice agency.

Completion of a Certificate in Victim Services (15 semester units) from an accredited college or university and completion of a 60 semester hour internship with the Riverside County District Attorney's Division of Victim Services.
