Job summary

CSS Farms is seeking a Facilities Supervisor to lead the reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of greenhouse facilities and infrastructure supporting year-round hydroponic potato minituber production. You will coordinate preventive maintenance, respond to facility emergencies, and work with the greenhouse management team to keep systems safe and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day maintenance and repair of greenhouse facilities, cold storage rooms, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules for facility equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, irrigation, and environmental control systems.
  • Coordinate corrective maintenance activities while minimizing operational downtime.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment history, and spare parts inventory.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and vendors performing facility work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Develop a working knowledge of major greenhouse systems including heating, environmental controls, irrigation, nutrient, water treatment, cold storage, electrical distribution, backup generators, and structural systems.
  • Learn to monitor alarms through greenhouse control systems.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects and capital investments.

Summary

The Facilities Supervisor is responsible for the reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of greenhouse facilities, equipment, and infrastructure supporting year-round hydroponic potato minituber production. This position leads preventive maintenance efforts, coordinates repairs and contractor activities, responds to facility emergencies, and works closely with the greenhouse management team to ensure all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

The Facilities Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining critical systems including irrigation, water treatment, heating, cooling, environmental controls, electrical distribution, backup power generation, cold storage, and greenhouse infrastructure.

Role Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance & Reliability
  • Lead the day-to-day maintenance and repair of greenhouse facilities, cold storage rooms, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules for facility equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, irrigation, and environmental control systems.
  • Coordinate corrective maintenance activities while minimizing operational downtime.
  • Maintain maintenance records, equipment history, and spare parts inventory.
  • Coordinate outside contractors and vendors performing facility work.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
Greenhouse Systems

Develop a working knowledge of all major greenhouse systems including:

  • Heating and boiler systems
  • Environmental controls
  • Irrigation and fertigation systems
  • Nutrient mixing systems
  • Water treatment and pumping systems
  • Cold storage refrigeration systems
  • Electrical distribution
  • Backup generator systems
  • Greenhouse structural systems

Learn to monitor, troubleshoot, and respond appropriately to alarms generated through the greenhouse control systems.

Safety & Compliance
  • Perform work safely while following all company safety policies.
  • Assist with facility safety inspections and corrective actions.
  • Ensure equipment remains compliant with applicable regulations and company standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance shop and work areas.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
  • Assist with facility improvement projects and capital investments.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades that improve reliability, efficiency, and operating costs.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and business continuity planning.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in the on-call rotation responding to facility alarms approximately one week per month.
  • Participate in a weekend rotation approximately one weekend each month to monitor nutrient systems and critical greenhouse operations.
  • Respond to emergency situations outside normal business hours when necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

This Position Regularly Requires
  • Walking throughout greenhouse, cold storages, and outdoor environments.
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, crouching, and reaching.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
  • Pushing or pulling carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Operating hand tools, power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment.
  • Working in varying temperatures, humidity, noise, and weather conditions.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday
  • Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • 1 weekend every 4 weeks
  • Additional evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency hours as operational needs require.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining facility equipment or industrial systems.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in commercial greenhouse, agricultural, manufacturing, industrial, or food production environments.
  • Knowledge of irrigation, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pumps, motors, or boiler systems.
  • Experience with computerized building automation or environmental control systems (Argus experience is a plus).
  • Experience coordinating contractors and managing maintenance projects.
  • Welding, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical certifications are beneficial but not required.

Compensation

We are proud to offer a competitive and comprehensive package for our team members. This position is compensated commensurate with experience, with a targeted salary range of $50,000 -$60,000.
