Job summary

MCPS is seeking a Facilities & Special Construction Technician to maintain buildings and grounds, perform carpentry and other trades, and manage small construction tasks. The role requires hands-on maintenance across systems and safety-conscious project execution.

The position covers routine upkeep, preventive maintenance, and occasional larger projects, with a focus on ensuring all facilities are safe, functional, and well-presented year-round. Benefits eligible; hourly pay range stated.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• 2+ years Construction or facilities engineering experience.
• Pool and Spa experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid and insurable driver's license.
• Plumbing experience.
• Electrical experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain buildings and grounds, ensuring all systems are functional and well kept.
• Attend to repairs timely and complete preventive maintenance per schedule.
• Lead small construction projects including electrical, plumbing, carpentry or concrete work as needed.
• Oversee exterior maintenance: parking lot sealing, signage and showrooms remodels.

Facilities & Special Construction Technician position available. This position is benefits eligible, pay is $28/hour-$40/hour dependent on experience and skills.

Job Summary

The Facilities & Special Construction Technician is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all MCPS buildings, facilities, and grounds. Ensuring the buildings and facilities are well maintained and all systems are in functional and good working order. All repairs are attended to timely, and all preventive maintenance is completed according to schedule. The Facilities & Special Construction Technician is also responsible for small but critical construction projects that may include electrical, plumbing, concrete/masonry, or carpentry work as they are assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Buildings

• Exits, walkways & doorway clear of obstructions, snow & ice removal
• Exterior paint and signage is in well maintained and functional condition
• All heating and cooling systems are well maintained.
• Any roof leaks are addressed in short order
• All other duties as assigned

Facilities

• Parking lot is sealed, striped and in good condition
• Lawn and underground sprinkler systems are well manicured and maintained
• Showrooms and remodels are overseen and executed

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

On an as needed basis, small construction projects completion may include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and tile work.

Education and Experience

• High School graduate or equivalent
• 2+ years Construction or facilities engineering experience

Physical Demands

Must be able to perform the following functions, with or without accommodations:

• Able to lift 75 lbs.
