Position Goal
To perform semi-skilled work involving heavy cleaning such as mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, and other assigned duties, to maintain the cleanliness, orderliness, appearance, and safe condition of schools and buildings in a responsible and accurate manner.
Essential Performance Responsibilities
The Facilities Serviceperson shall carry out the following responsibilities:
- Clean all assigned areas such as cafeterias, restrooms, offices, gymnasiums, halls, outside areas, etc., according to custodial standards.
- Empty trash containers, carry garbage cans, and dispose of debris properly.
- Sweep, mop, brush, vacuum, strip, and wax floors, including walls and walkways.
- Perform heavy lifting tasks such as moving garbage cans or debris to the dumpster.
- Wash and sanitize restroom facilities and replenish supplies.
- Replace light bulbs and clean fixtures; remove and clean filters.
- Dust and clean furniture and perform minor repairs as needed.
- Operate heavy equipment for floor stripping and sealing; use heavy-duty vacuums.
- Replace worn or depleted items like bulbs, fuses, and soap dispensers.
- Move or transport furniture and equipment.
- Change air conditioning filters and clean vents.
- Maintain equipment properly and store safely.
- Assist with unloading supplies and furniture, and store them properly.
- Report supply needs and building issues to supervisors.
- Practice safety and ensure a safe working environment.
- Complete projects accurately, recording time and materials used.
- Comply with employment policies and participate in training.
- Stay updated on job-related developments and adhere to safety rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Complete the Basic Facilities Service training program and obtain certification within probation.
- Perform custodial work and operate cleaning equipment.
- Perform heavy lifting and climb ladders for maintenance tasks.
- Follow instructions in English regarding cleaning and operation.
- Work well with others and possess required computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of experience as a facilities serviceperson aide within Broward County Public Schools.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
Additional Information
Majority of contact is with department employees, requiring tact and courtesy.
Physical requirements include exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
Terms of Employment
Salary and benefits are per the district's plan. Work hours and year are as established by the School Board.

Salary and Additional Details
Pay Grade: FA1401; Work Calendar: 261 days; Night shift differential: $0.35.
Note: New hires start at the minimum salary of the range. Salary schedules are available online.
