Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking a seasoned electrical engineer to support maintenance, troubleshooting, and infrastructure construction projects at the Groton shipyard and nearby sites. The role involves interfacing with authorities and managing vendors to meet project budgets and schedules.

Candidates should have a BS in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of post-graduate experience; PE license is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of post-graduate electrical engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project management tasks: define scope of work, prepare bid documents, select vendors, secure funding, and issue purchase requisitions.
  • Oversee in-field project management of vendors and EB personnel, ensuring budget, schedule, and documentation compliance.
  • Design and implement electrical distribution systems up to 35kV including substations, switchgear, transformers, and underground duct banks.
  • Coordinate with city officials and Naval oversight; ensure adherence to state/local building codes.

Overview

The Electric Boat shipyard is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth, with existing facilities undergoing renovations and new buildings under construction with more to come. Now is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of a dynamic team responsible for shaping the future of the shipyard.


The Groton Facilities Engineering department is seeking a seasonedelectrical engineer to provide maintenance and troubleshooting support for the 110+ year old Groton shipyard and local sites, as well as designing and executing infrastructure construction projects.


Responsibilities for project management include engineering and developing the scope of work, preparing bid documents, vendor selection, securing funding, preparing purchase requisitions, in field project management of vendors and EB personnel while maintaining the project budget, schedule and project documentation.


Candidate should be familiar with electrical distribution systems up to 35KV, including substations, switch-gears, transformers and underground duct banks. Knowledge of submarine shore power requirements as well as of state and local building codes is desired.


Candidate will interface with local city building officials as well as Naval oversight. Candidate must be self-motivating, be able to work independently, possess good written and oral communications skills, maintain a questioning attitude, as well as be proficient technically with a willingness to continuously learn.


Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of post graduate experience in electrical engineering

Preferred:.


  • Experience in facilities engineering, plant engineering or construction is desired
  • Professional Engineering License(PE)
