Job summary

The West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA is seeking a Full-Time Facilities Professional to help with daily maintenance and housekeeping across YMCA facilities. You will clean, sanitize, and prepare areas, assist with window washing, pool cleaning, and grounds tasks while supporting events and emergency needs.

Under the Facilities Director, you will operate equipment, report repairs, and help ensure a safe, welcoming environment for members, while adhering to DEIB commitments and standard safety

Qualifications

  • Six months or more of related facilities maintenance experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 30 days; OSHA trainings.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work varied hours including weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures Y is attractive and clean by following the daily schedule and maintaining assigned areas and equipment.
  • Perform cleaning duties such as mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, pool cleaning and lawn care.
  • May set up furniture for events and assist in maintenance on Camp Chickami and CFAD properties.
  • Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment and report needed repairs.
  • Maintain building security during shifts and respond to hazardous conditions with supervisor.
  • Commit to DEIB principles and support diversity goals within the organization.
  • Maintain and replenish supplies (soap, towels, etc.) and assist during emergencies as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of theFacilitiesDirector, theFacilitiesProfessionalshallassistin the day-to-day maintenance and housekeeping of the West Suburban YMCA and its facilities. The Facilities Professional will be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing assigned areas, including such duties as mopping, dusting, and trash removal. May complete duties related to window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, snow removal, grounds keeping, times of emergencies and other related responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintain upkeepof assigned area and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  • Must be able to work varied hours (to include days, evenings, weekends and possibly holidays) depending on operational needs(particularly with severe weather).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Active support of our DEIB statement and putting into practice our commitment to equity, diversity,belongingand inclusion. Continue to research, create,recommend and implement strategies to support diversity goals of the organization.
  • Operates Related Motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Records and reports all neededrepairs;repairs as directed.
  • Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • Responds to the needs of the facility/employees swiftly and quickly.
  • May set up furniture for events.
  • Maintenance on both Camp properties- Camp Chickami and CFAD.
  • Maintenance on pools.
  • Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Six months or moreof relatedexperience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.

  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  • Understanding of cleaningcompounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Must be able to work varied hours (to include days, evenings,weekends and possibly holidays)depending on operational needs.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid. OSHA required trainings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling;carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
