Job summary

YMCA is seeking a Facilities Director for the Central Community Branch in Worcester, MA, overseeing maintenance, custodial operations, and our Camp Blanchard property. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in facility management or 5+ years in mechanical repairs and custodial procedures.
  • Three or more years' experience in facility management or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, carpentry, and maintenance areas.
  • Skills in supervision, budget management, and project management.
  • CPO certification within 120 days of employment.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED training within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate facility maintenance, preventative maintenance plans, and custodial services with contracted providers.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and direct staff; review performance and motivate. Build relationships across teams.
  • Oversee repair work and manage contractors servicing the facility and grounds.
  • Ensure safe pool operation and chemical management; maintain CPR certification for pool operations.
  • Work nights/weekends as needed and collaborate with other branches on projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; coordinate with fire, health, and building departments.
  • Budget planning and expenditure control; optimize branch costs.
  • Maintain safety standards for staff and facility operations.
  • Ensure vehicle and equipment maintenance per YMCA policies; manage grounds upkeep.

Description

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Facilities Director position directs the maintenance and custodial operations of the Central Community Branch, as well as our Camp Blanchard property. The Facilities Director's responsibilities include preventative and vehicle maintenance, as well as serving in an on-call, twenty-four-hour, seven-day-a-week role. The Director must be available for all contingencies or ensure appropriate emergency coverage of the facility at all times.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program Leadership & Implementation
  • Provides overall coordination of facility maintenance, including planning and developing preventative maintenance plans and the coordination of contracted custodial services.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs assigned staff. Reviews and evaluates performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Completes repair work and projects promptly. Oversee all contractors that work in the facility and on the YMCA grounds.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for the efficient operation of the pools. Ensures the highest safety and health standards in the administering and control of pool chemicals and filter operations. Maintain a current Certified Pool Operator certification.
  • Perform night and weekend hours as needed or directed by the Executive Director
  • Works collaboratively on maintenance projects with other branches in the Association as needed.
  • Works with outside agencies such as fire, city health, and building departments to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to facility operations.
  • Inspects all facilities under his/her responsibilities weekly and submits recommendations for planning and prioritizing of facility work to the direct supervisor.
  • Assumes primary responsibility in achieving branch budgets and ensures prudent expenditure and cost control procedures in accordance with branch procedures and policies.
  • Always ensures the highest standard of safety for themselves and their staff.
  • Follow all safety regulations in accordance with OSHA and all other industrial safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensures that assigned vehicles (and other equipment) are maintained and operated in accordance with YMCA, local, and state policies and regulations.
  • Ensures the proper upkeep and cleanliness of facility grounds, including but not limited to lawn care, snow removal, and ice control.
  • This position is required to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to facility emergencies, urgent operational needs, and critical incidents, ensuring the safety and continuity of branch operation
  • Maintains adequate inventory of housekeeping cleaning supplies and replacement parts for equipment that may be required by the Branch
  • Provide support of the Association's charitable giving, including the Annual Campaign and special events resulting in achievement of the Association and Branch philanthropic goals.
  • Participate in Branch staff meetings and other Branch and Association meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in facility management or a minimum of 5 years' experience in mechanical repairs and custodial procedures
  • Three or more years' experience in facility management or a closely related field
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance- related areas
  • Skills in supervision, budget management, and project management
  • CPO certification within 120 days of employment
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED training within 30 days of employment
  • Ability and current license to drive with a record that meets YMCA standards
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

Schedule: 40hrs per week. Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm

Job-Type: Full-Time (Exempt)

Pay: $50,000-$53,000 (based on education and experience), plus, benefits to include generous PTO, Access to facilities for immediate family, Medical, Dental, Disability, Life, Vision, & Pet Insurance, and ability to participate 403B Retirement Savings Plan. Also, once fully vested the YMCA will pay into an account for you!
