Job summary

Dakota County is seeking a Building Maintenance Supervisor to oversee care, operation, and maintenance of county facilities in the Hastings region. You will supervise staff, coordinate with vendors, and ensure efficient building operations across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical certificate/degree in HVAC Systems, Building Maintenance, Building Services, Housekeeping Management, or closely related field.
• Four years progressively responsible experience in building services such as HVAC operations/maintenance, housekeeping, custodial, or contract management; at least two years of supervising others.
• Equivalent combination of education and direct work experience totaling four years in building services areas; includes supervision.
• Valid driver's license.
• 1st Class 'C' boiler license OR 2nd Class 'C' boiler license with plan to obtain 1st Class within six months.

Responsibilities

• Direct day-to-day activities by scheduling and coordinating staff to meet county goals across ~500,000 sq ft of buildings.
• Supervise staff including hiring, training, performance reviews, and discipline; manage work orders and after-hours coverage.
• Coordinate electrical systems maintenance with electricians and service contractors.
• Oversee facility systems maintenance (heating, cooling, plumbing, doors, housekeeping) with staff and contractors.
• Ensure safe work practices and train staff on cleaning and maintenance chemicals.
• Develop operating budgets and scope of services for contracted work; prepare RFQ/RFPs for small projects.
• Work on Capital Improvement Projects and energy management initiatives.
• Maintain PM records for building systems and train staff on emergency procedure manuals.
