The Facilities & Operations Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Architecture Center. Working across Facilities, Operations, Exhibits, and other departments, the intern will assist with space preparation, exhibit projects, inventory, maintenance coordination, documentation, and special projects while learning how a cultural nonprofit operates behind the

Duties and responsibilities
  • Assist with facility setups, takedowns, room configurations, and preparation for events, programs, meetings, and tours.
  • Support exhibit installations, deinstallations, moves, and the preparation, organization, transport, and storage of exhibit materials.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of public, exhibit, office, and operational spaces to identify maintenance, safety, cleanliness, or presentation needs.
  • Assist with signage, wayfinding, storage organization, and inventory of facilities, exhibit, office, and technology-related supplies and equipment.
  • Receive and distribute deliveries and research furniture, supplies, equipment, and vendors as needed.
  • Support preventive maintenance by identifying items that may require repair, replacement, or service.
  • Assist with moving and repositioning furniture, displays, equipment, and other materials based on operational needs.
  • Help maintain inventories, floor plans, installation notes, standard operating procedures, and setup, inspection, and maintenance checklists.
  • Provide cross-departmental support on special projects and other operational needs as assigned.
QualificationsSkills and Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program; students studying architecture, facilities management, operations, construction, design, engineering, business, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • Interest in architecture, facilities, exhibits, building operations, or nonprofit/cultural organizations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Dependable, proactive, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage multiple assignments, and communicate effectively with staff across departments.
  • Comfortable with hands-on work, including moving and organizing materials, furniture, supplies, and equipment.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar applications.
Schedule
  • Part-time college internship, up to 10-20 hours per week.
  • Schedule will be coordinated based on the intern’s class schedule and departmental needs.
  • Primarily onsite at the Chicago Architecture Center.
