The Building People, LLC is seeking a Facilities Mechanical/HVAC Project Specialist to support the 81st U.S. Army Reserve Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in Columbia, South Carolina. This position supports Army Reserve facilities and infrastructure programs through practical HVAC, mechanical systems, repair planning, documentation, and project coordination support that directly contributes to mission readiness.
The successful candidate will work with Army Reserve personnel and multidisciplinary teams to provide engineering, planning, maintenance, and construction support for facility systems throughout the region.
Note: The Building People recognizes that many highly qualified facilities and HVAC professionals develop their expertise through years of hands-on field experience, mechanical construction leadership, facilities maintenance, military facilities support, public works programs, and building systems operations. Candidates with substantial directly relevant experience are strongly encouraged to apply, even if their background is not a traditional Mechanical Engineering degree path.
While a Mechanical Engineering degree remains preferred, candidates with extensive experience in HVAC systems, mechanical facilities operations, mechanical construction, facility condition assessments, repair scope development, cost estimating, CMMS/FEMS documentation, DPW/public works support, military facilities, or federal facilities programs may be considered.
The Facilities Mechanical/HVAC Project Specialist provides technical support across the planning, assessment, maintenance, repair, and execution phases of Army Reserve real property projects. Responsibilities include field data collection, HVAC and mechanical systems assessments, repair recommendations, scope development, cost estimating support, technical documentation, CMMS/FEMS updates, and coordination with government and contractor stakeholders to ensure compliance with Army standards and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
