Job summary

Bayhealth in Milford, Delaware, is seeking a skilled Mechanic responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of hospital mechanical equipment. You will work on chillers, cooling towers, medical air systems, and related equipment, performing preventative maintenance to ensure reliability.

The role requires at least four years in building or equipment maintenance, a high school diploma or GED, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record within the past 3 years.
  • Four years' experience in building or equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Preferred: 6040 Med Gas Certification.
  • May require working alternate shifts depending on staffing.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure reliability of building mechanical equipment by performing preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Repair and install mechanical equipment to minimize unplanned work requests.
  • Monitor utility systems and maintain medical air systems, chillers, cooling towers and related equipment.
  • Complete all assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks to standard.
  • Report system deficiencies to management when repairs exceed capabilities.
  • Follow department safety procedures and use PPE as required.
  • Participate in emergencies related to weather, facility occurrences, and staffing needs.

General Summary

The Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all mechanical equipment and systems, to include chillers, cooling towers, medical air systems and related equipment. Performs preventative and predictive maintenance to ensure reliability of all systems and equipment. The Mechanic works independently or as a member of a team and is required to make several competent decisions, some of which are complex in nature, to accomplish assigned tasks. The individual may be required to work alternate shifts depending on staffing levels, projects, and emergent situations.

Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure reliability of all internal and external building mechanical equipment and systems by performing preventative and predictive maintenance. Maintain general mechanical equipment and systems in the highest ready state. Repair and install various pieces of mechanical equipment and systems to minimize unplanned work requests. Complete and maintain daily maintenance and repair logs as appropriate.
  • Monitor condition of all utility systems for proper, safe and reliable operations during frequent intervals. Maintain and repair medical air systems, chillers, cooling towers and related equipment to minimize equipment failures, system alarms, unplanned work requests, and infectious control occurrences.
  • Maintain condition of hospital equipment, including ice machines and refrigerant systems, to prevent equipment failures that create unplanned work requests and infectious control occurrences.
  • Complete all assigned work orders meeting established standards, defined by management.
  • Completes all assigned Preventative Maintenance tasks meeting established standards, defined by management.
  • Appropriately reports any system deficiencies to management when repairs are outside of their abilities.
  • Follows all department safe work practices and procedures including use of PPE when required.
  • Completes and follows all departmental and organizational permits pertaining to the environment of care and safety. (Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Utility Shutdown, etc.)
  • This role is deemed essential and requires participation in emergencies that are related to weather and facility occurrences. Some activities may include but are not limited to snow removal, storm preparation, and utility outages. The individual may be utilized to support other departments during an emergency.
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Credential(s): Driver License Driving Record Required. Due to insurance carrier requirements, all staff must be at least 21 years of age with a current class D driver’s license with no more than 2 moving violations or accidents in the past 3 years.
  • Experience: Four years experience in building or equipment maintenance and repair, to include basic electrical and plumbing work. Preferred: Experience in mechanical systems, pump repair, boiler operation, and electrical troubleshooting.
