Job summary

Cantata Adult Life Services in Brookfield, Illinois, seeks a Maintenance Director to lead campus operations, oversee preventive maintenance, and ensure a safe, clean environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

You will supervise maintenance and housekeeping teams, manage vendors and capital projects, respond to emergencies, and ensure compliance with life-safety, OSHA, IDPH, CMS and other regulations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; higher degree preferred.
• 5+ years maintenance experience with 2+ in supervision, in healthcare or senior living.
• Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, safety).
• Experience with preventive maintenance, budgeting, and capital projects.
• Knowledge of OSHA and life safety regulations; IDPH/CMS preferred.
• Ability to lead a team and foster safety and accountability.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Proficient with CMMS and Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and participate in on-call duties.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varying conditions.

The Maintenance Director is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, safety, and appearance of the campus. This role oversees preventive maintenance, building systems, grounds, environmental safety, vendor relationships, and regulatory compliance to ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Director leads the maintenance and housekeeping team, manages departmental projects, responds to work orders and emergencies, and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role, preferably in healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or commercial facilities.
• Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, life safety, and general maintenance.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs, vendor management, budgeting, and capital improvement projects.
• Knowledge of OSHA, fire and life safety regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Experience with IDPH, CMS, or long-term care regulations is preferred.
• Ability to lead, coach, and develop a maintenance team while fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or similar software.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations outside of regular business hours and participate in an on-call rotation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical demands associated with facility maintenance, including walking, climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
