POSITION: Facilities Manager
LOCATION: Emerson Colonial Theatre - Boston, MA
HOURS: Full-time; some nights, weekends, and holidays required per performance schedule
COMPENSATION: $68,000 - $74,000
ABOUT THE POSITION
- Reporting to the Deputy General Manager, the Facilities Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining operational and custodial standards for a high-traffic, architecturally unique, and world-class performance venue.
- Provide direct supervision to the Facilities Management Assistant and serve as the main contact for third-party custodial teams.
- Conduct daily inspections of the facility to ensure appearance, safety, and readiness standards are met.
- Support the operation of building systems, including HVAC and MEP systems, and perform repairs such as doors, ceilings, floors, lighting, and painting.
- Manage deliveries and inventory, including food, beverages, cleaning supplies, and Playbills.
- Perform cleaning and sanitization of common areas, restrooms, and support spaces as needed.
- Represent the venue during inspections with municipal authorities, including the Boston Fire Department.
- Collaborate with management on capital improvement projects.
PEOPLE, PLACES, and THINGS
- Lead a team comprising one full-time employee and several third-party custodial staff, promoting their professional development.
- Work closely with all departments, especially General Management, Customer Experience, and Production.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors.
- Engage with artists and guests during performances, exemplifying hospitality.
- The venue is Boston’s longest-operating theatre, hosting historic Broadway shows and live events, with a capacity of over 1,600 seats.
EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Experience in facilities maintenance and basic handyman work.
- Knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, fire safety, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Project management skills and familiarity with historic buildings are pluses.
- Experience working with unions and in entertainment or hospitality fields is beneficial but not required.
